Former Melbourne star David Schwarz believes veteran Carlton coach Denis Pagan would be the ideal choice to revive the struggling Demons in the wake of the departure of Neale.

Too right.

When the Board hears that, they'll re-sign Pagan for another 3 years. Go Denis :-)

But seriously, one of the reasons why Daniher pulled the pin was because they were forcing him to undertake all of the assessments required of any other applicants. I just don't see blokes like Matthews, Malthouse, Sheedy or Pagan being willing to sit through psychological testing when their personalities and strengths and weaknesses can be easily seen by looking back over their careers. But Gardner has made it clear that no one will be exempt from the testing. It doesn't look as though Melbourne will be able to attract any experienced coaches, and maybe it doesn't want any.

I honestly believe this would be a terrific move by Melbourne and would be the coaching coo of the 21 st Century if they pulled it off.

Pagan and Melbourne would be a perfect fit and Denis coaching style is ideal for the Melbourne football club .

David Schwatz and I am on the same wave length Melbourne cant afford one of these untried coaches and must bite the bullet and get Pagan while he is available they would be mad if they didn't.

Melbourne FOotball Club is the oldest club in Australia. It is apparently the second oldest football club of any kind in the world.

It is so old that apparently it dates back to the time of the ancient druids, who would colour their dreadlocks blue in honour of the sky in which the sun lives, and red in honour of the blood that flows within. Together, these make up our life-force.

Makes perfect sense for a Pagan to be the head of the Order of Melbourne Football Club.

The abject disaster that was DP's time at Carlton means no other club will go near him in the future. He carries more unwanted baggage than a Spice Girls tour in the 90's.

But they're in the middle of a comeback, too.

Paddock Spice? Den Den Spice? Mullett Spice? Boring Spice?

Nope, I've got it ... Pine Spice (as in leave 'em on the pine) :)

You're all way off the mark.

Melbourne have said that they will search far and wide for a new coach. This seems as though they will put all candidates through a rigourous procedure to determine the best fit for their club.

The question I pose to you all is, how equipped is Denis Pagan to sell himself to the Melbourne Football Club? It is obvious that he is not going to walk right into the job, and rather would have to be seen to be the strongest candidate based on numerous interviews, psych profiling, and a probable range of trendy HR tools to determine somebody's organisational 'fit'.

Lets refresh our memories shall we. As far as I understand, Pagan was hired by Elliot et al in September 2002? Did he have to go through any recruiting procedure? Or was he simply 'poached'? I think it is the latter.

As for his time at the Roos, I am only assuming that he was awarded the job on merit due to his form with the U/19 side. He would have been the logical replacement for Schimmelbusch.

Denis Pagan is one of those people who has been lucky enough to never face a strict recruiting procedure for either of his senior coaching jobs. If he did leave Carlton, I doubt he would 'apply' for the Melbourne job because he knows that he would not be able to beat other candidates in testing, rather thinking his level in the coaching strata would deliver it to him immediately.
