when Greg Swann was appointed, a lot was made of the fact that we were after the best CEO, not the best available. Unless we really believe the current crop of assistant coaches are all better than the current senior coaches, we don't seem to have followed this path. Now that the Voss talk is out of the way (thankfully), I would like to see the club have a real crack at a big name coach - if Michael Voss has an aura because he played in 3 premiership sides, surely the man who coached him in those teams has an aura also, and he has experience in starting to rebuild a list, after the Lions' glory days. I think he is under contract until the end of 2008, but if we want the best......

Following on from the DP tradition, shouldn't Don Pyke be a chance to coach next season?

Mark Thompson anyone?

Contract expires end of this year.

If we're prepared to be patient then you never know. When the inevitable happens in September Bomber wil probably realise he's wasting his time with the Cats.

Maybe we should try to sign the recently retired Luke Darcy as coach, his commentary work is first class and he has a good grasp of modern footy. :P

Or he could be one of Chris Bond's assistants and our new ruck coach if Bond gets the job. 8)

wow, that sounds just like the vossy selection logic :)

I reeember hacking into the CarltonFC server the other week and saw Vossy's resume. His coaching section was a bit thin, but it said channel 10 "2minute demonstration of coaching" and special comments.

So upset we missed out on a untried coach, it would of been perfect after 5 years of DP.

How about we stick with RATTS

Both Fevola and Murphy have already said they want Ratts coaching them in 08

First time carlton had a close game with St Kilda in a long time. Hes getting the best out of the players so far, and thats what you want

A coach players play for and a coach that can get the players playing to a good gameplan.

Could the coaching position be a poison chalice if Ratten doesn't get the job?

Post subject:  And then there were 3.....................

Channel 9 just reported that Blues have 3 people left on coaching short list, with coach named by end of month.............

1. Ratts
2. McKenna
3. ??????? (They reported Laidley)

I just don't understand why we do not seem to have been more aggressive in our pursuit of current senior coaches with a track record of success (e.g. Matthews, Williams, Roos). I don't count Laidley in this class.

They probably considered every coach in the league. But they obviously want a fresh face for a fresh team.

I still don't like the fact that McKenna is constantly being linked to the Carlton job.

they might not be interviewing McKenna for the lead coach position ( sounds dumb but its possible ) i heard Bradley was pissed when they chose Ratten instead of him so he may not stay at Carlton.

...Just throwin out possibilities

Has the be the Swann factor, and people are worried Sticks will too much of a say.

In the end I'll be happy with whoever the committee selects*. Richard Pratt isn't going to let fools select out new coach so we have to faith in Swann, Icke, Sticks and Gleeson.

*i have faith as long as it isn't Libba, Laidley or Harvey
