2008 to 2010 may be finals - but most likely 2009.
Denis wont be coach of the next Carlton side that makes the finals, but will be an interested observer.
Whitnall, Kouta, Saddington, Teague, Bannister and Lappin will all be gone.
Mclaren and Ackland probably gone as well.
There may well be some kind of a trade of who we consider now to be an untoucheable player - but although this may appear to be a poor descision at the time, it will be the best for our club.
The trade will be for a well developed midfielder, for whom a sacrifice in terms of players and/or picks will be made.
Bryce Gibbs has a stellar year in 2009. Murphy will be captain.
We will have a young and very clever coach at Carlton, who will work wonders with our young side.
This person will be an excellent communicator and will have a knack of drawing match winning performances from the players in a way that will be reminiscent of Barassi, but without the Barassi temper tantrums and vitriol..
The Carlton players will truly love to play for the new coach, and initially will be besotted with him in a football sense, idolise him when he is appointed.
And this will be shown in some stirring wins, that are hard fought, with a great deal of passion - many will say that we are playing above ourselves - and in a sense we will be, but you dont make the transition to becoming a finals side by a series of uninspiring performances.
We will have an attacking game plan as we do now, but we will have a lot more runners in the side - which will translate into a lot more wins than at present. We will tend to run in waves - and our style of play will be compared with the mosquito fleets we have had at Carlton in days gone by.
We dont win an awful lot of our matches, maybe 12 or 13 - but at that time there is an evenness in the competition which means that only 11 or 12 wins will seee you in the eight, but more importantly, percentage is a much more critical factor than now..
Anderson will be a star player. Bower will also be in the side - defying Denis's view that he isnt good enough.
The ruck will be addressed, and we will have a serviceable rather than good ruckman.
Our strength will be midfield and Forward line, Defense will be good, but nowhere as good as it has been in Carlton teams of the past.
Having said this, a feature of our running style of play will be forward attacks launched from defence, quite often resulting in a score.
Our wins in what will be a fateful year will be exciting, with more losses than wins occurring in the first half of the season, while our new coach finds his feet and effectively learns on the job. He starts to hit his straps towards the end of the season.
This will be a very fortunate year for Carlton - we will be blessed with few injuries during the year and our draw will be quite a favourable one.
It is also possible, maybe because of a war during that time, that some matches might be again held at Princes Park.
Many Carlton premierships have been won in the shadow of significant military conflict, and it may well be that such a thing is again repeated in the not too distant future.
