It would be great if he could be honoured somehow, with the family's consent, of course.

Surely this is worth black arm bands for the Freo match..

John 15:13 - "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." And he did it for someone he didn't know from Adam.

We posted at almost the same time....

Thread merge maybe?

IMO, it should be for a home match, not one the other side of the country.

What a legend. I'd like to think I could be that much of an inspiration for my kids, not neccisarily by a act exactly the same as that one, but just by the way I live my life generally.

Just rang the Club to make sure they were aware of it - Couttsy will be all over this asap - as soon as he gets back from lunch at a guess ;)

Yep - mods, please combine. Maybe this could be a tribute thread or whatever.

I would be upset if the club didn't honour him somehow.

I have just forwarded the Courier Mail article to the club to make them aware of it

I hope the boys wear the black arm bands against Fremantle to honor this man. My condolences also go out to the family.

Just emailed the club reinforcing the above.

Feel free to do so at blues@carltonfc.com.au

Mr Keilars family must be very distraught at the moment and maybe just one of our young guns could help by making a simple phone call or visit.

This will not ease their pain but it may just bring a smile to his little boy.

I dunno about one of the young players, as this is a bit heavy for them to be taking on. I would recommend perhaps Kouta.

He's done a heap of community type work before so yeh, I agree he'd be the man for the job.

Good thinking!

As long as any visit to the family is done very quietly without media involvement I'm all for it.

This family's been through enough - I'd hate to see a media circus revolving around us doing something for them.

Absolutely!

I'm all for generating positive press for the club, but trying to make "something" out of this tragic set of circumstances could be bordering on pretty tasteless.

Excellent point Deano! The last thing we want is like you say, the media swamping around the house, or others thinking the Carlton Footy Club is using it as a PR exercise! The quieter this gets done the better it is. Privacy for the family should be of utmost importance.

For everyone's information........

The Club is working towards some form of support or assistance towards the family of Brendan Keilar.

It may or may not be black armbands during a game.

It will be up to the family themselves as to what form this takes, and obviously they are not in a position at the moment to make such a decision.

I believe some information will be out in a week or two.

The funeral is today, and I'm sure everyone will spare a thought and a prayer for the family.

A true hero.
Sam Newman gave a nice tribute on TFS last night.

It still irks me that this guy died because of a lunatic and a mole

Yeah, me too. Sounds like he was a lovely bloke. As a father of young kids it's easy to relate to someone like that and imagine the pain his family is going through. If only he'd known the circumstances he might have thought twice, but seems like he's the type of guy who'd step in anyway.

Sam summed up the alleged perpertrator beautifully too.

"Hes been called a tough guy. Lets see, he smacked two women, shot three people and ran away. Hmm"

Such an awful thing to happen to such a decent guy....

I think the Brendan Keilar Most Courageous Player Award would be a fitting tribute.

The policeman who helped broker the deal to bring this moron in is a family friend.

I unexpectedly caught up with him yesterday and thanked him for making sure that no-one else was going to get hurt in getting him to surrender.

My thoughts go out to the the families of both the heroes who were only trying to do the right thing.
