Tonight on " On the Couch" Walls basically wrote an epitaph for several Carlton Footballers
Saddo
Lance
and the Midfield that can't run

You can add Ackland to that list.

He even had video evidence to back it up.

Said you can't be slow, not that we are slow, so not sure he has flipped.

I think he put the heat more on Ackland, Saddo and Lance

Wasnt too long ago Wallsy was really talking up Lance.
Blind Freddy can see those 3 plus Kouta are gone.

Denis and Sticks arent Blind Freddy

But how impressive was Sam Mitchell? Gee I'd love him at Carlton. Next captain of the Hawks I reckon...

Well said Wallsy!

A True Carlton man.

Ackland didn't give his midfielders hope.

He said that if we got a B Grade ruckman in McLaren, who was 3rd or 4th ruck in line after the A Graders at the Lions, then why get another B Grade ruckman in Ackland, who struggled at St Kilda and was terrible on Friday, on a 3 year contract, only to end up with 2 B Graders. He suggested that Carlton should have stuck with the original B Grader in McLaren and see it out till they found one; that was 3 seasons ago. Two B Graders don't solve or do anything good.

I'm just glad that Cloke didn't get mentioned in the same company as those 2 B Graders, as the 3rd (195cm) ruck Carlton have drafted this year; another B Grader. Clokey has played his heart out this year for his new team; but he is not the ruck answer.

Wallsy hasn't flip flopped. He pointed out that a ruckman feeds the runners and can make them either look fast or slow.

Interesting that OTC guest Sam Mitchell said that the most important player on the field is the ruckman, and backed it passionately as to why, as well as giving us an insight in their rucking-midfield strategies.

Campbell (200cm+) and Taylor (200cm+)...2 kids...rucking in the firsts... and dominating all B Grader comers. Mmmmm if only.....
How did we do so badly with our ruck position? It's just not fair.

Fair has nothing to do with it.

We have not drafted a young Ruckman to the club (excluding Hamson and Jacobs) since we drafted Matthew Allan to the club in 1993.

So you admit Ackland is B grade but then shit can him for not being able to take on two young rising ruckmen on his own?

Based on the criteria Wallsy was measuring Lance and Saddo ...I think he would be including Kouta, but respects him too much (and knows this is his last season after being asked to go again).

Basically he's saying that they're too slow for the modern game, and Gerard Healy concurred and said "If you haven't got pace, you can't play at this level. Simple."

It's over for them...please retire gracefully...please.

Was it 1993 when we picked up Matty Allan and Mark Porter in 1997

...and then Lindsay Smith, and who could forget Mott. What years did we get those guys?

I always thought 1997 was the last year we drafted a young rookie ruckman.

No, not at all. That's what Wallsy classified him as, and he also thought that Ackland's ruck display was atricious. They even showed footage of Ackland backing away from a ruck duel in the centre trying to avoid contact, and Campbell just went all over him (like a spider on a fly) and tapped the ball down Mitchell's throat.    They made him look stupid. Sorry, Ackland made the fool of himself and our jumper.

I don't rate Ackland as ruckman, let alone a B Grader ruck from St Kilda; if there's a C Grader that's what I'd consider him. Look, he didn't even try numerous times, throughout the game and throughout the year. He's not giving us more than 70%, or if he is, he's "atrocious".

Shit canning him? Nah, he's the one that wanted to come to Carlton to take on the first ruck role, because he considered himself as a first ruck; he's shit canning himself.

Serious The Game, can't you see it...that he's not giving it his all?

why would a good ruckman have wanted to leave their club to come to carlton at the time of the PSD? we were on the nose - we took the best ruckman available who was prepared to come to us - there wasn't an abundance of options

we can all see what's wrong - how do we fix it?

Your're right we picked up Mark Porter in 1997 but he was more a mature age rookie.

But hey 1997 - its now 2007 and there in lies the travesty of our list management.

We have drafted Hampson and rookie listed Jacobs - and Aisake O'hAilpin as I have mentioned elsewhere is our "happy accident" ruckman although whether its his best position remains to be seen.

We now need to perservere with there development and hope like hell we can draft Matthew Kreuzer this year.

I keep saying it.
If you keep adding average to an average list you just have more averageness...

If you have a bucket of shit and go get yourself another bucket of shit you have 2 buckets of shit.

Now... Denis [REDACTED] up big time cos he didnt want to invest in a young ruckman.. but continued to burn spot after spot on the list for average players and average ruckmen....
They have cluttered our list so were low on running power....

What do we do??...

For starters get rid of the blokes who have savaged our list maintenance.

Second.. you must have faith in the players you have drafted.
We have invested a pick on Hampson and we have Aisake...

You WONT fix things with a click of the fingers.. as some of you stupidly think. Its going to take time and there are NO QUICK FIXES.
So you plan to better your list properly.

No we are not making the finals this year!!!
