This is my first post so here goes.While totally agreeing with the sentiment of the article i cant understand why we changed our jumper after the 97 season.To me that jumper looked fantastic,each one induvidual.It was that style jumper that we had all the success in.I believe the insignia was even hand sown.The present jumper(plastic iron on insignia) looks cheap by comparison.I have heared that the reason behind the change was the club wanted every jumper looking the same for corporate/marketing reasons.To make the change without seeking the members approval was ordinary to say the least.A compromise could be to have 3 jumpers-current jumper,new alternative white strip and heritage jumper for away games which would add to the marketing/sales area. |

When the monogram was changed (game 1 1998)like many people I was horrified. After driving down to melbourne to watch us play Adelaide, out came the Blues wearing practice jumpers. I was totally peed off and left the game at half time.Spoke to stephen gough during the next week , who said it was "manufacturers interpretation". Bulldust! Stephen to his credit admitted it was merely a transference of the club letterhead onto the guernsey.I BELIEVE THE CURRENT LOGO (I wont call it a monogram) LOOKS ARTIFICIAL AND CHEAP. Some time ago Ian Collins said he wouldnt "Bastardise"the Carlton guernsey by allow sponsors advertising on the back of the guernsey. I understand that financial needs brought about a rethink on that .I even accept the MnM farce, because at least it had the REAL monogram. So what does Big Jack do next? Yep, he "Bastardises" the monogram.I want the club playing like a Carlton side again, but I also want them LOOKING LIKE A CARLTON SIDE again. : |

I do prefer the old mongram. the change was a pointless one that achieved nothing. |

Absolutely Murraycray,i felt the same way.Couldnt believe they just changed the jumper like that.Most Blues supporters i have spoken to agree.This, followed by losing our home ground/ advantage has been hard to take and something i never thought could happen not so long ago. |

And don't forget the "under-over" nature of the C's over the F. That is a subtle nuance as equally important as the "notches" or the downward slant to the little line of the F between the little C. That original monogram is an absolute classic. I DID love the old jumpers with the sewn-on monograms. Every player seemed to have a preference. Craigh Bradley's was always huge it covered ost of his chest. The pre-1998 jumpers were just sensational. How good would it be to find a jumper - circa 1979 with the original monogram, and the little blue AVCO badge. Classic |

Agro you are correct when you say insignia has remained the same for many years. It is in other words to quote stephen gough, a letterhead, it wasnt worn into "battle". Collingwood had their insignia on their supposed away guernsey a while ago and it didnt work either. Now their jumper looks remarkably like the old Brunswick VFA jumper but who gives a rats. When I spoke to goughie and later Don Hanley about the change the both came up with the technology line. It was apparently impossible for technology to replicate the monogram the team had worn for generations. Hello? I couldnt cop that then and cant now. Maybe its time the club canvassed the membership on their thoughts on the monogram. TONY DE BOLFO PLEASE NOTE. |

Murray you are missing the point - if the technology was available at the time then our insignia as it appeared on our letterhead for generations would have been the logo on our jumper - it was a travesty for all those years for the jumper to be what it was - the introduction of the true insignia on our jumper in 1998 was something that should have occurred years ago had it been technically possible. I was very happy with its introduction in 1998 - and meant finally we looked a fully professional outfit on the field. |

Agro I take your point, but I associate the present logo with 3 wooden spoons. Lets agree to disagree on this oneand get into (hopefully) enjoying some on field success. |
