Our top 10 goalkickers in history



Not many genuine full-forwards on that list. Sticks? Good at FF but best at CHF. Vallence? Yes, one of the few. Jezza? Mainly a flanker. Really in the top 5 there is only really one genuine full-forward on that list. For some reason we're a club that hasn't been known for its spearheads in the goalsquare. Compare to Collingwood, who had Coventry, Dick Lee and Peter McKenna, or Hawthorn with Peter Hudson and Dunstall. Why is this? Not to mention the few Coleman medallists we've had, which brings me to Fev.

Fevola continues to climb the list, and if we can assume that he'll play another 100+ games (and can hopefully improve his overall game as he gets older) can we expect that he'll challenge Sticks and Soapy at the top of the list? If he's able to overtake them statistically, would we regard him as our greatest full-forward?

i think for now most people will agree that vallence is our greatest ever full forward with an average of 3.54 goals per game compared to fev's 2.73. obviously no one's going to remember soapy vallence the player but the stats say fev has a bit left to do.

He probably need another 4 or 5 years of the standard he has shown to definitely say he would be considered greater than Soapy.

Let's hope Fev doesn't have to wait until the last day of his 13 year career to get a premiership medal, like Soapy did.


As a side note, how many teams would have a forward line with 2 or more players with 340+ goals? Sydney? Maybe a few others?

we do have a history of great CHF's at the club, in recent memory Whitnall, Spalding, Hamill etc but Fevola's the only 'full forward' of the more recent bunch since the Kernahan and Pearce era.

"Turkey" Tom Carroll could have been our best. Booted them from 60m.
Won the VFL (Coleman Medal) Goal kicking with about 54 goals when the grounds were very heavy.

Unfortunately he went home to Ganmain NSW to pluck turkeys

He didn't ever want to play footy did he? He was the reluctant recruit if there was ever one. Bit like Davies. Neither lasted long.

He was one of the best kicks for goal I have ever plucking well seen.

You are right though he was a vey reluctant recruit. No $400K p.a in those days

He's managed 3.556* this year - on that rate he should exceed 78 goals this year, but he's not that consistent, kicking 8 in Round 3 this year but being kept to 0.2 in Round 2 and 1.2 in Round 4.

* to be verified - I have 32 goals to date, official stats have only 30. On that basis, his average would be 3.333 (only 70 goals this year). Access to the stats shot at Blueseum for the other players.

my dad knows someone who used to go to the footy with Vallance.... he reckons the reason people called him Soapy was because that he wasn't the most clean person going around.

i was just comparing fev's stats to that of sticks and i think fevola is on track (injuries permitting) to break sticks' record for mot goals in our history. at the start of this year, fev was on 328 goals; at the same age, sticks was on 248 goals. with our midfield (and whole team in general) improving the way it is there's no reason why fev can't push sticks' record of 738 goals.
