Post subject:  How many AFL ELITES are on carlton's list?

The question was posed to Gary Lion after yesterday's game - "How many players on carlton's list would you regard as being AFL elites"?"

His Answer (which i think included those who he expects to be an AFL elite):

5 players
- Fev
- Murphy
- Gibbs
- Waite
- Kennedy

His 2nd tier players which he doesn't regard as AFL elites but more so strong players wer the likes of:

- Walker
- Fish
- Simmo
- Russel
- Carrazzo

I'd like to know what fellow blues fans think of his response.

It was strange to me that he didn't consider Walker in the first group and he completely neglected Scotland out of those 2 lists (unless i mis-interpreted what he said).

i'm pretty sure he did have scotland in that first list.

and walker continues to be under-rated. all of the players listed in the 2nd group have the potential to be elite but i'd be happy if 2 of them followed up.

it's a pretty impressive list but as gary stated we need a couple more and i think we should be able to get some in this year's draft. we also need HEAPS more players to come up into that 2nd group to give us more depth.

Who cares what Gary Lyon said about how many "elites" are on our list?

He is a biased flower who absolutely hates Carlton! Due to radio reception I was forced to listen to MMM yesterday and I don't knoe if it was just me, but did anyone else notice Gary only comementated when Adelaide had the ball?? You couldn't shut him up when the crows had possession, but Carlton? PPPfttttt!!!

One of his classics yesterday was in the first quarter when Adelaide kicked their second goal (whilst we had 5 on the board) and he said "This is the point where Adelaide will just assert their dominance on this game"

He is just an overrated flower of an ex-player who is starting to think he is the next Eddie McChins. Keep your opinions to yourself Gary. We know our list has got potential, and I think he does too; he is just a little worried he will have to talk about how good we are sooner rather than later.

Interesting that he put Russell in there, I would also think Walker at this stage would be more sure of becoming elite than Kennedy

I find it amazing that Gary Lyon actually thought we had players in the ELITE category

we've got Fev and Murphy is next in line. Walks still has heaps of improvement left in him so he could step into that category.

Guys like Simmo, Scotts and Stevo are fantastic players but are at the peak of their powers and could only be termed elite by the most one eyed supporter.

Waite showed he has the talent to become elite, but his lack of consistancy seems to make that step a difficult prospect.

If you don't think that Steven is elite, then you're crazy. Other teams would kill to have him on their lists. Look how hard Port tried to keep him and how hard Collingwood went after him. Port wanted a player who went at pick 3 for him.

If Murph and Gibbs are considered elite, then the definition means that they have the elite capabilities because neither have shown it over a long period of time yet. This means that Walker is also clearly elite. I would throw Scotland in too. He would make any team in the AFL and would be a starter and high possession gatherer in any midfield. Quality player.

We should have picked Alwyn Davey because he will be an elite player. :garthp:

I reckon Stevens is elite and many of our supporters in general under-appreciate him and don't realise how good a player he actually is.

I love Scotland but am not sure he is really 'elite'. I agree he would probably make any team in the league and he is our most consistently very good player but I don't see him on quite the same level as Stevo all things being equal. Scotland is a very good player but Stevo just has that extra bit of class for mine. Having said that both are extremely important to our side.

So so true. Remember when we were flying back in 2004 and Fev had kicked bags of 8 , 7 and 6 and he and Brown got together after the Richmond game and dobbed in Fev for accidentally clocking Brown the girl? Derailed our season that did. Fevless , we went down to the Swans by a few points the next round and never really recovered until we won 3 of our last 4.

Its funny how Karma comes back to bite you , Brown , the disloyal tell all's career is fooked. Hopefully the same happens to this tosser.

Thats right now i remember more. Once he mentioned Bannister in the 3rd list, i realised he didn't know what the @#$%&! he was on about and was just throwing names in the wind.

I also neglected to mention that he rated Stevens in the 1st griup as an Elite.

I think his definition of Elite arte players that would qualify for the footy show panel!

I think he also put Dominic Fotia in the elite category....

It was a pathetic appraisel of the list and showed that he had no idea about the last three years of draftees. I mean he called Bannister a young kid? Christ.

Don't worry about slinging the word elite around and get focused on the smaller steps that help our players get better. That sort of generalizing is best left as padding for football radio that isn't sure whether or not they should play music for half an hour or just bullshit.

Anyway, it was good straight after when some flower called up and asked to speak to James Bradshaw.

nytdog the filth didn't try all that hard to get Stevo and weren't prepared to really trade for him. They figured he wanted to come to Collingwood and that Port would have to do a trade for him, but they didn't count on the cantankerous bastard in Choco who wasn't prepared to settle for less.

It was a bad game of chicken that benefited us the most.

Having said that, I totally agree with you that he is in the elite.

Right, Port wanted Didak (a pick 3) and Collingwood weren't prepared to let him go. Make your own assessment which player is better. Personally I'd take Stevens.

My point being that the filth weren't prepared to offer anything of substance for him, so weren't really gung ho on getting him.

For my mind Stevens over Didick everytime.
