Post subject:	Remember When?
Do you remember when....... We were so good, especially at home, that is wasn't a question of whether we would win, but by how much...... We would leave the ground sometimes disapointed, because we got out to an early lead but didn't really bury a team by what we thought was enough........ Some people wouldn't go to some games because they thought there wouldn't be enough of a contest, esp in the early 90's I knew people that went skiing on what they called 'the bears weekend'........ Remember when winning wasn't enough, we had to win in style, getting our goals through class, not through grunt......... Remember going to the Notting Hill Hotel after Waverley games, most of the players would gather there........ Remember our home crowd giving a standing ovation, usually at 3/4 time after one of 'those' quarters........ Remember winning the toss at home games and thinking 'good, we're coming home to the Heatley end'........ Remember when making the finals was just a formality? In the first 30 years of my life I think we missed them about 8-9 times......... Remember when we had a coach and you thought that when we were down 'don't worry, (insert coaches name) will fire us up'.......... Remember winning the flag in 87', & not even getting that excited cos it just seemed that more would come and that we were back to business as usual????? Remember when you would watch the reserves and the excitement would build before 'the real team' ran out? They seemed like real heroes to me as a kid - you always thought they would win - cos they were Carlton..... What else do you remember? How long before I don't have to remember things but I can live them again?......

Jaysus, I've never seen any of these things since I've followed Carlton. It really is odd being a new generation Carlton supporter - hearing folks who pine for the 'good old days'. I remember getting trollied by the Roos in Rd 22 2003 - that's my most recent memory of a live footy game, I'm afraid. Ends sad little post

Ends sad little post HTP - from memory we hadn't finished below 10th (or was it 11th) until 2002, I think that puts things in perspective - Not making the finals was a tragedy - now look at us!

I remember when we used to sit at optus oval every week, next to the same people every week, having the same arguments every week watching our team slaughter teams coming to "our" ground Now with tel$tra dome, it isn't the same on any front

Remember when the Saturday Herald used to print a run down of the 1st Qtr. We would be poor starters and it would talk about how bad we were doing. Problem was we'd won and reading that garbage was traditional. Last races in RED print down the side The 3rd Quarter Blitz when no matter what was happeningon the ground we'd come out and slaughter sides each and every 3rd qtr.

I remember the old ladies sitting behind us saying that the 95 backline was OK but the 38 backline was even better........hard to argue with hem as my parents weren't even born in 38.

I used to go to PP with my old dad every week every year and sit near a bunch of pople who came down year after year in a coach from Bendigo. 'How do you think we will go this year?', 'How is your son after his operation '' etc? We would arrive in time to see the last of the U19's (Steven Silvagni, Mil Hannah etc), watch the twos to see who was pressing for selection and then always comment on how much faster the game was when the ones started. (Rituals are very important in every religion). We would rush home after the game to watch the replay on TV but my mum, who hated footy, always used to make us watch 'Young Talent Time'. Those were the days of only one TV in every household. I still hate Johnny Young to this day.

remember how on the replay there was always a message that would pop on the screen prohibiting the recording for a while 7 also played a recording of supporters chanting the teams name - regardless if they were 10 goals down or not. I can also remember how we always had a small crumbing forward that would swoop on the ball accelerate and drill the ball through when it counted. Eddie is the closest thing we have now - but he is it - we have no small forwards now that can kick them on the run - you know the traditional type half forward.

I remember Dad perching me on Coke cans in the terraces behind the goals at PP... I also remember Craig Bradley's twilight years, goshing to the person next to me about how - the way he was still playing - he could keep going forever... The best memories that I have were after the second siren at PP, running out onto the ground and kickin' the footy with my brother...

I Remember and I remember when the coach would fire us up by putting Harmesy in the middle or Hunter in the forward line I remember being in the social club in 86 after we lost to the horrible hawks, and all the players one by one came on to the balcony and apologised (even Doully who was retiring) and promised to win the next year ..and they did I remember how pissed off we would get in our absolute and deserved arrogance when a crap team called Footscray would do us at The Western Oval in the wind. I remember when we would kill sides in one quarter then play like in typical Carlton lairizing fashion for the rest of the game. I remember so much it hurts I hope I can let these things be memories soon because the present has become too exciting to be bothered thinking in the past

i remember what a shock it was when we missed the finals in 89. 1st time since 77 it was. those were the days when finals footy was real finals footy with only 5 teams

I was having some warm and happy thoughts thinking this September will be the 20th anniversary of the Walls/Sticks flag. Then I thought, in 2008 it will mean that Carlton has only won one flag in the last 20 years. When Kouta retires it will be the first time since 1969, at least, that we've not had a Carlton premiership player on our senior list.
