Hi Guys

You probably think this is a bit crazy but should DP of coaxed Deluca out of early retirement so that we had a CHF that could take a decent amount of marks and kicks around the field?

Rather then have JK in the team just to get experience

ITs obvious that JK isnt doing aswell as Deluca last year

Just a thought, we miss a CHF this year badly

We could of used him as a back up ruckman also.

Deluca wasn't the best footballer going around but at least he was able to take marks around the ground and presented well.

The behind-the-scenes manoeuvreings may have been more complex, but the stated reason why he retired was that he wanted to focus on his career as an accountant. Apparently, he's employed by one of the big 4 firms, and may well have needed to devote himself full-time to the job to advance.

Maybe there might have been some pressure on him to retire, but I don't think so. The retirement of French and the injury to McLaren probably mean that Pagan was caught off-guard, particularly as Bryan was causing problems too.

Whether Pagan wanted Deluca to stay or not, it was probably out of his hands.

Deluca's no longer at the big 4 firm he was at. I don't know whether he was laterally hired by another or he's gone somewhere else, but he's no longer at the big 4 firm he was at.

Our ruck situation at the moment is very bad It isnt Clokes fault he is injured but he was only temporary. Ackland was our prized recruit we paid big money for for three years.

Is Ackland a better player then Deluca? Is Ackland a better ruckman then Deluca?

Deluca was pushed, he didn't put the club to ransom he left on his own accord.

i'd have preferred Barnaby French to stay than Archie...but yeh Archie seemed to come into his own a little last year, its a shame he had other ventures outside footy cuz i always liked the guy, i'll remember him spending 45min talking to me at the 2004 Best And Fairest while he was on crutches, discussing his brother Fabian's draft hopes at the time...i was only 15 at the time and wasnt 'in the loop' so to speak, but my cousin was playing under 18's with Fabian and i knew of him, and that was enough for Archie to take time out to have a conversation. He, Glen Bowyer and Bret Thornton were 3 of the nicest guys imaginable.

Sounds stupid but archie was the heart of the club :P

Atleast he can ruck, and i would prefer him over Ackland who is slow as turtle out there. Cant win a tap and doesnt get many possessions. Gives away too many frees

Deluca would fit nicely in the ruck this week

Even if we had Deluca in the side there would be very little chance of salvaging much of 2007 at this point.

If we lose to Collingwood - as I believe will happen - there will be a real sense after this round has been played that 2007 is nothing more than a year in the wilderness for Carlton - but with the sweeteners that we won another pre season cup and than also that we have done most of the painful rebuilding of the player list follOWing our now quite distant draft penalties time.

As good as his footballing talents are or were, Deluca is still a link to a past time that we need to forget about and instead, concentrate on our new and very young players that are learning their craft.

There is far more future potential in what we have right now than what we had in 2004 when we were just outside the 8.

Even though many have quite justifiable reservations about JK, He is still young and needs more time to develop - so still has potential, wheras Deluca is a link to what we need to forget about.
