Post subject:  Ressies side - is it viable

Not sure if this has been covered much in the past few months as I haven't been bothered trawling through reams and reams of tired old repetitive threads but I am wondering if someone who is actively involved with the club (I mean REALLY legitimately involved - not some wannabe's) can enlighten us on whether the possibility of fielding a stand-alone Ressies side in 2008 is a viable option or not.
If so, what needs to happen in regards to all aspects of this option, and how much would it cost us.
You would imagine that with the injection of funds we have recently had, that there may be some $ to self-fund a team on our own and thus help our development "going forward" (such a cool buzz-phrase isn't it?)

Of which this could be one of them 8) repetitive thread that is.

Not sure that we need to field a Carlton reserves team especially given our financial position.

If Collingwood hasn't seen fit to field their own team with all the money they have it could be that it is not viable even more so since Barry Mitchell is our reserves coach and is sort of part of the CFC football department - although our reserves coach is not talking to our senior coach, but you get what i'm saying.

No offence intended DUC but I really couldn't give a @#$%&! about what Collingwood or Essendon* or any other side are doing at the moment. Nor Barry Mitchell for that matter. For too long now we have been concerned with what Essendon* and Collingwood do - well let's try to look at what they don't do that we could do better for a change.

Just on Collingwood and its affiliation with Williamstown. Willy was a very strong and independant club before they joined forces. Methinks that Collingwood needed an affiliation with a strong VFL side in the VFL comp more so than the VFL Williamstown needed an affiliation with a weakened Collingwood at the time. Now of course they are getting a lot of fringe benefits, more so than we have even gotten with Preston and it is a mutually beneficial pairing. Ours with Preston is not mutually beneficial nor has it ever been.

Geelong on the other hand runs its own Ressies side with great success so go figure....

As I said, I don't really care what other sides do but what we can do to ensure the strength and hope of success on-field.

If a Ressies side is not a option, fair enough but I think that for the development of our club on a long-term basis, it needs to be looked at in a great deal of depth and a Feasibility Study done to ascertain its viability.

There is $ coming into the club now and if things continue to improve, there will be more and more $ coming into the club and more and more scope available to look at on and off-field improvements. I think this is something that is vitally important for our further improvement on-field.

Now if this is a tired old repetitive thread, can the mods merge it with another thread on the same stuff.

But if Stephen or Mark are reading it, can we have a comment from the Club as to whether this will be looked at in depth or not?

Thanks guys.

Chyna
