I've been invited (via Optus who my business is a client of) to train with the Carlton players on a Tuesday night in June. Very excited/nervous - worried that I'll trip Fev over or poke Bryce in the eye.

They provide a Carlton jumper, training session and dinner with the players afterwards. I recall they also had this night last year - has anyone here attended previously?

You lucky SOB.

Do they need anyone to rub down the players before and after training?

Great fun NBH but you won't be training with the players as such. The players will be conducting the training sessions. Nice meal afterwards as well. Great night.

You haven't seen me play sport - doesn;t mean I won't be able to injure someone.

Cheers.

NBH there will be a nice little game played where you'll get your chance. Just don't bump any of the organisers as they are quite fragile at the moment. :P

Great work NBH. A few people I work with have gone as part of our sponsorship of the Blues & I've heard nothing but great things. A Richmond supporter even praised it as a great night.

You get a fair bit of time to chat with the players & I'm pretty sure you get a tour of the changerooms/facilities.

Just don't injure anyone or show any of the players up

N B H, you will enjoy!

I was lucky enough to win a spot at last year's Optus training night, via a '25 words or less (why I would like to train with the Blues)' competition.

Paid for the airfare (x2) from Brisbane to Melbourne, but well worth it. Fortunately had cousins (not Ben) in Melbourne to help with accommodation.

Received the jumper :) , enjoyed the meal :) , listened to Coach Pagan  and had a great time going through half a dozen drills/activities  with various Carlton players leading each group.

Ran on to the oval with the Club song playing, and then through a specially prepared banner.

During the dinner, various players were interviewd by Ian Coutts, and some prizes were given out. :( Can that Aisake fill a plate with food or what?! :o

Only a few 'big name' players were in attendance: Big Red, Skinny, Little Eddie, plus others including Banno, Aisake, Callum Chambers, DeLuca...

Went back to the Blues' full training the following day and enjoyed that too! Got the jumper signed my many players and purchased a bit of merchandise including the framed and signed 'Proud History' print.

Overall, a couple of great days. Thanks Optus, thanks Blues!! 8)

Last night was the big training night. A great opportunity to get changed in the players change rooms first up, after being provided with one of the new away jumpers. Ian Coutts then got the night rolling (loves the sound of his own voice), and then passed to Gavin Crosisca who chatted for a while about the development of the group, yada, yada, yada.

Ran on to the hallowed turf through a small banner with the theme song playing across the ground. Then broke into six groups and spent 10 mins at each of 6 stations doing different activities. Players running the drills were Carazzo, Thornton, Ackland, O Hailpin S & A, Flint, Edwards, Hartlett, Fisher, Raso, Bentick & Benjamin. Crosisca and Libba also in attendance, Scotland and Grigg floating around the changerooms seeing the physio.

Training was wrapped up with a small comp run by Crosisca, lucky winner receiving a Sherrin signed by the team. Dinner in the Social Club followed, with Thornton, Bentick, Benjamin and Raso on hand to sign jumpers and be interviewed by Coutts.

Main observations / comments:

- all players extremely welcoming and friendly
- Bentick really impressive - good size, speaks well, seems like an all round good guy
- Benjamin lives with Ken Hunter
- Raso very frustrated after glandular fever and wrist injury
- Aisake a very impressive size, at least a head taller than Ackland, laughed when he told us to "pair up in groups of 3"
- Edwards a very confident young man!
- the tackle bag hurts more than I expected

All up, a great thrill. Pity about the number of Filth supporters there.

Cheers,
NBH

errr, no. Nowhere to be seen.

I reiterate, Coutts loves the sounds of his own voice.

Thanks for the update NBH.

I hear that Bentick is pretty good on the bench press. :P

In the change rooms they had a list of players weights from before and after training this week. Was suprised that Bentick was up in the high 80's, much more solid than I thought.

By the way, the OO/MCLP surface is absolutely immaculate, a crying shame it goes to waste. Conversely, thank god renos are on the way, the players facilities are ordinary to say the least, there would be VFL or local clubs with better change rooms.

Mmmmm... bordering on arrogance?? This is not the first time this has been mentioned.

Hasn't done anything yet so look forward to seeing his development.
