Post subject: | Some disposal stats |
Some interesting stats care of the revamped stats.rleague.com site with stats going back as far as 1992 (1991 is WIP): The West Coast game on Sunday is a RECORD for dispoals by a team in a game since 1992 with WCE gathering 469 touches. Geelong two weeks earlier gathered the 9th most disposals in a game by a team since 1992 with 419 disposals. Both were heavy defeats. Whilst Murphy and co got to "run with" Judd and co, we didn't actually apply and hard tags. When I think about it, even though Russell has been issued with tagging duties even his work couldn't be considered a hard tag, though it has been relatively close checking. Are we striving to be an ultra-attacking side? Given our youth, if we go for all out attack we will end up getting smashed by sides with strong midfields, as happened against West Coast and Geelong, with both of them securing record disposal counts. We don't really have any taggers on our list, blokes whose only aim is to scrag and niggle and pester whilst never really worrying about the ball. I don't mind that, as I reckon with a bit more experience under our belt we will be able to get our own dispoal rates up to those of the opposition and match them in a head-to-head shootout. Get the ball and doing something with it! |

thought someone should reply We have the scraggers we just dont seem to use them as scraggers Bentick- Carrazzo - Waite - Wiggens and Scotland should be our scraggers they have developed bodies and most of them have questionable disposal Gibbs- Russell - Murphy- Stevens - Houlihan and Walker should be our creative players and use their silky skills and rack up possessions Pagan appears to give these guys run with roles to teach them accoutability . He plays Bentick as an in and under who racks up 6-7 tackles a game because his opponent always beats him to the contest He plays Carrazzo where ever he see fit mid feild back and as a small forward He moves Waite around like a yo yo Wiggens gets to run up forward and does nothing and Scotland does a Campo down back (except occassionally he puts his body on the line) It confuses me maybe BV can come on here and explain it to me I can not for the life of me figure out why he has this insistance on knocking all the creativity out of the players who have it |

What a confusing thread ... people get upset when we not playing the kids and dont put em in then next say why we putting our kids in the centre ![]() chubbyruss Quote: One of our biggest problem with disposal stats is that we can't get the flower ball in the first place. Why did Pagan put such a young starting group in the middle against the likes of Judd & Kerr Sydney Blue Quote: Bentick- Carrazzo - Waite - Wiggens and Scotland should be our scraggers they have developed bodies and most of them have questionable disposal
In question to your proposal for Scraggers ... Bentick and Carrazzo are more the in and under Midfielders not taggers there role should be to get the clearances from stoppages admit though Carrots been used more midfield / forward this year. Wiggins - used in forward role can debate if or if he dosnt do it properely Waite - Plays forward and back not as a tagger ![]() And Scotland ummm he is one of the most damaging centre / back players why would you use him to tag ... not sure you been watching past couple of matches ... bombers especially he is definately creative / hits targets gets the ball and also gets a fair bit of contested ball why would you make him a scragger / tagger type ![]() Players on our list that could be used for tagging Russell - learning process ie similar to Walker Blackwell may also be good in this role as he would be able to keep pace with his opponent and put pressure on them Benjamin - Maybe a good early role he for learning as he has pace and is physically strong for his size. Maybe ideal role for him to break into the team though he would be ultimately a great Midfielder of the future ... but while improving his disposal a tagging role maybe a good starting point for him |
