Post subject:  To tank or not to tank???

I'm a long time reader fourth time poster in this forum.

I know that this topic has been addressed time and time again and many of us have mixed thoughts but i'm keen to see what us fans think of Carlton tanking for the rest of the season to ensure we get the PP this season (picks 1 and 2).

I'm very excited with our list and see a bright future but cant help but hope that we do finish last with 4 wins or less so that we get the first 2 picks in the draft. Our list is going to be impressive...imagine having the best 2 players from Australia in this years draft added to our squad. We definitely need a long term ruckman and maybe the answer is Kreuzer (along with Hampson)?

Winning is important for the club, members, sponsors and importantly, our youngsters but i would be more than happy for our young kids to be blooded this season and us finish last with less than 4 wins with some 15 very gallant defeats by less than 15 points.

Many of you will disagree with me but i'm thinking about the long term future of the club. We will be a force for the next 10 years with picks 1 and 2 from this years draft. This will be our last chance in many years to qualify for a PP so i think we should take it.

I will be devastated if we end up winning 6 games for the year finishing in 13th/14th place. We already made that mistake a few years back when we won 10 games and ended up with Jordan Russell as our first pick missing out on the likes of Deledio, Griffin and Franklin.

I loved beating Essendon* as much as anyone yesterday but i couldnt help but feel a little concerned leaving the G yesterday knowing that our PP is slipping away.

The AFL screwed us over a few years back, this year is our chance to make a mocery of their system and stick it right up them.

You think Pagan will want to win another spoon and get all the abuse from Carlton members blaming him and asking for the sack?,it's not going to happen.

The Players will be aiming to win 8-10 games this year and if lucky and not out of the question, depending if they play the best 18 on the ground and resting Whitnall for the first quarter at least,so he doesn't have to break his kneck with the speed of the game at the start,we making the finals.

Why would we need the PP when we have Dick Pratt making offers for Judd? What we need to do is prove to Judd that we are not a basket case and will win many flags in the next 10 years.

Ask yourselves an honest question - if you think we have a list that can take us forward for the next 10 years then answer the question with intelligence and honesty.

the response from a few is everything why the "draft" is shithouse.

it should be a lottery.

9-16 - in Pool 1, get selections from 1-8
1-8 - Pool 2, get selections from 9-16

then from the second round it reverts to the order you finished on the ladder.

the sooner we stop "rewarding" finishing last, the sooner we dont have to discuss the "pros" of losing

and certainly not after 3 flower rounds and after one of the greatest wins in the clubs history.

and yes, i think we have side developing that will see us at the top sooner rather than later.

if our players come as hoped, all it is time for us, time for them to become men.

not finishing last again

In regard to draft picks we have been extremely luckyover the last two years (with exeption of the 2nd rd PP) having picked up Murphy and Gibbs when they could of very easily been not available for selection.

It would be very risky to try and put the icing on the cake with another PP in second last position (Nth will finish last).

I think it would be wiser to develop the talent we have through a winning culture, be clever with our recruiting, and super aggresive with our trading (watch this space) this year.

Remember we have increased our full time scouts by 50%

It's not just about getting a PP any more, but keeping the talent we have interested also......Deppression is at an all time high is it not?......

If we don't trade our Round 1 & 2 picks, then we can continue to improve our list.

That is the key to success, not tanking.
