Given the lack of FTA coverage we are getting these days I think it might be time for the club to look at getting the AFL to fixture some of our games on Monday nights. We can make Monday night football our domain (just like North did for Friday nights). Obviously it's not ideal in terms of supporters attending the games - BUT it's more about getting brand exposure on the commercial stations.....which we are lacking at the moment. Even though it's being tried before (but seemed to fail) perhaps it might be worth giving it a shot. |

Monday night games probably won't happen. Would like to see us maybe developing the Sunday twilight timeslot ![]() |

Rest assured that - like north - if we pioneer something that actually works, it won't be long until the AFL stick Collingwood in that timeslot. |

I know what you're saying bluehammer - but we are a stronger club than North. Naturally if it works & in say 10 yrs time they decide to schedule a game every week on Monday night it won't just be Carlton games, but initially scheduling 3 Carlton games for 2008 would be a good start. An idea could be for 1 of these games to be against Sydney. Perhaps we can create a Carlton vs Sydney MON night game every year.......for no other reason than Channel 7 or 10 might show it at a reasonable hr in SYD and with SYD being the corporate capital of OZ, might create some opportunities for us there. The thing is - BP (Before Pratt), we were all screaming about how the old board was doing very little in terms of being pro-active.......perhaps something like this might guarantee us more regular FTA coverage. |

Monday night games are a shit idea. People with money that go to football games work on Tuesdays. Parents that take kids to games don't want little Timmy having a late one before school on Tuesday. It's a tv concept - works in rugby league 'cos nobody goes to their games anyway. |

You know what else would be tits? If some wacky advertising guy calls it "Blue Monday" and they play New Order ad nauseum. |

As a Rugby League fan, I am dreading Melbourne Storm's first Monday night game in mid-May. I get to games 2 hours before kick-off, and generally stay 2 hours after at the Social Club with mates before heading out on the town. On a Monday, gates open 5pm. Game starts 7pm. Social club will be closed by 10pm. Monday night football is designed for television audiences only. And as a viewer, I'm enjoying sitting down for a 7pm game on a Monday night. Ratings wise it's working well. Crowd figures seem to be holding up so far. But I'm not looking forward to it. There's a reason why the're sharing the Monday night timeslot around. In AFL, considering the length of the game is longer, and crowd levels make a real difference - I think Monday night AFL would give the networks ratings, but that don't give us market share. And I think it would be fair to say a Monday night fixture would quickly become the realm of the payTV market. |

Monday Night Football in America is a by-product of the immense mass of football scheduling that is the weekend (All college games on Saturday, 15 games on Sunday & Sunday night). It is made for TV football, and considering most stadiums in America can fit about 65,000 people and will do so, no matter the day of the week, they stand to make huge dollars for prime-time sport. Would like the club to land a money spinner like that, but we obviously don't have the population size (and dispersion, remember it's 3 hours difference coast-to-coast in the US) and market place conducive to such a product. Twilight footy could be an option, if the TV networks can find a weekday where it would be worthwhile for them to put on live footy. |

ABC has dropped Monday Night Football in the states. Its on ESPN now and Sun night is the big game of the week. Monday night footy is a turkey. Sunday twighlight is a Foxtel game. Once the team improves, we'll be scheduled on Fri/Sat night where all the action is |

This is true, but ABC have a bunch of top quality TV shows they can get as good a set of ratings with, without having to pour money into live tv broadcasting. ESPN stand to make more money with Monday Night Football than they do without. I think twilight mid-week would work, because you're looking at the after-work crowd, combined with an early finish (most people will be home before 11). So if 7 or 10 have a weeknight where prime-time is currently a failure, why not give the concept a run. Having a look at 7's coverage, it looks like it runs on a shoe-string budget anyway, commentator's pay aside. Could be a boon investment. |

Monday Night Football would be total cabbage! I hope it never, ever gets up! The reasons for wanting to find a niche for our club are great, but Footy should be played on the weekend damnit!!! ![]() |

Touche. ![]() I'm certainly not advocating Monday Night Footy, I just think some blockbuster games of our own ala ANZAC Day and the like could be acheived without a public holiday, and certainly during the week the twilight (5:30 - 9:30) timeslot is viable. That was refreshing by you though, good to see. ![]() |

I'm here to please Jim. I think we should make Sat'd arvo our own. The fixture is full of bullshit times and days and little footy on a saturday. And at the G. |

I think you will have to check the percentage of children who go to both rugby league and American football games to the percentage that go to the AFL - I think it would be much higher at the AFL - and that would take away a far wack of the crowd because kids would have to go to the school the next day. |
