Seeing as we're all seemingly prone to doing a Bruce McAvaney in Barcelona on these sort of things and listing every bloke since Bob Chitty to play for us as being a reasonable sort of bloke....who've you met that you've thought "Yep, ripper bloke."

From when I was a kid attending the coaching clinics and what not during the school holidays, toss up between Ang and Brad Pearce. Ang was great with kids, always had time for them, and a really enthusiastic bloke. Pearcey, well, the bloke always had time to sign just about every piece of paper/photograph/memorabilia/trading card that I had of him, which was an absolute shitload.

Being a bit older, one of the most decent people I ever encountered was Callum Chambers. Was really gutted that he didn't make it. I remember when I was working for Foxtel, and I remember him somehow getting through to my department, wanting to send back his Foxtel box before they sent the debt collectors after him, although the thing was still in Perth, and he'd just got down to Victoria for pre-season training. So of course, knowing who he was/is, I'm trying to remove every debt/red light on his account possible, and halfway through the call, I get this "Oh shit,....oh shit! Just hold the line, mate. I'll be right back!", and I'm sitting on the end of the line, listening to what sounds like a massive scuffle going on, shitting myself thinking that the new recruit is going to get himself put in hospital before the season starts. Few minutes later, Callum gets back on the phone out of breath...

"Sorry mate, I'm in a back alleyway in Lygon st on my mobile, some junkie's just pulled a knife on this other bloke, was getting a bit hairy there."

Took me about 2 minutes to close my mouth and before I could reply with anything. "That's insane." was hardly the most insightful thing I could have ever came up with, but why it never made the papers that a Carlton footballer broke up a scuffle with a knife weilding assailant is so indictive to how shit our PR was at the time.

Shit, I miss Parko too. No wonder we did so shite in 1997, he spent most of the pre-season camp at Sorrento helping me with my homework.

Brad Pearce was one of the best blokes going around, so was Peter Dean, especially when pissed.

Fitzy was a gentleman. Barry Armstrong and Peter McConville were 2 realy nice blokes to me as a kid.

My Cousin used to be Married to David Kernahan, and as the paigeboy at their wedding i was in awe (i was 5) as you could imagine....Dooza was an absolute gentleman. One of the nicest blokes i've ever met in life.

as for the others, i remember being about 6 and being at the Optus Oval sitting with my cousin Teegan, sittin with the players wives/guys in the magoos and after we beat Brisbane she asked a bloke to take me into the rooms with him, the guy was an injured Brad Pearce who was on crutches, and he took me into the rooms and even though he had no clue who i was, he went out of his way to stay with me and introduce me to basically every player as i got their autographs. And he then even talked to me for a good 10 minutes while i waited outside for David to leave the rooms later that day.

the guy was pure class and i'll never forget him until the day i die.

Another vote for Peter Dean, treats people like he has time for them even when he doesn't.

I met a lot of players over the years (been attending many club functions over many years) and met a lot of delightful players.

The one I remember best was Ron De Iulio - we had attended a big CFC function at Crown in the nineties and were trying to get a taxi - Ron and his partner were waiting too - so we chatted for about half an hour while waiting. A really nice guy - straight talking with a good sense of humor...

Thirding that one.

Met Harry a couple of times too as well as in the rooms back in 95, he was very approachable.

From what I've heard from family, Sticks was always up for a chat as well, but he did (and does) wear his heart on his sleeve.

My wife used to work at a Radiology where Kouta used to bring in his dad before he died. Said he was always friendly and never made out like he was a big shot... she also said that he was still signing autographs when people asked even though he was there for his terminally ill father...

me myself, I've never had the guts to approach any of our players... I go all ga ga when I see them....

Barney French.
Brad Fisher.
Anthony Raso.

Now, prior to Razz being at the club I wouldn't have known him from a bar of soap. Spoke to him a few times at training and what not, but every time I walk past him at a Carlton Social event or at a Carlton game, he always makes an effort to come over to say hi and have a chat. One example of this was during the Wizard Cup Grand Final. Myself and Clint were about to get a pic with Diggers and Raso walked past, noticed I was there and started chatting with me. Start chatting about his injury and all sorts of other stuff. As I said, I don't know him from a bar of soap and I've only spoken to him a few times at training, but I like the fact that he goes out of his way to have a chat with me every so often. Just a top bloke is Razz.
