I suggested this (in some other thread...........can't remember which one) and then noticed a really interesting Stat in today's Age. The leading Inside 50 target this week was Fevola with 22 attempted deliveries. Can't remember who was 2nd but i think it was Nietz with 15. ![]() Now Fevola is probably one of the more worthy targets going around but it's just getting a bit frustrating seeing us bomb it to him whilst he has 2 or more defenders on him,..................ESPECIALLY when you have free players. Or am i reading to much into that Stat? I guess i should be happy that we are getting the ball inside 50 that many times, and don't get me wrong i'm wrapped that we are, but with Fisher & Kennedy showing so much during that game & Ackland's body size making him another convienient option........................well, put it this way.................if Fev has been double teamed then really that just means that somebody is out there without a man? Doesn't it? (Please don't think i'm dissapointed with the win,..........i'm wrapped.........i just thought it was an interesting stat, that's all!) |

I think we are a bit too Fev orriented in the forward line.. i felt a bit sorry for JK and some other forwards who had many good leads unrewarded as players bombed long to Fev who had 2 or 3 people hanging off him.. |

i also noticed a few times where players actually looked for fevola rather than looking for the best available option. even though fev is easily the best out of our forwards with his marking and kicking we should just worry about kicking to the best available carlton jumper without looking at who the actual player is, there were plenty of times where fevola was competing against 2 or 3 players. but most of the time the 2nd and 3rd player doesn't actually start on him they are just deliberately waiting in the area and when the kick comes they all contest for it, maybe our players could also watch out for that. i don't think it is a massive problem but its definitely better for us going forward if we just looked for the best option. |

Maybe Sir Richard could provide a monetary incentive to players to kick it to anyone OTHER than Fev................... |

If the forwards coach (?) can start working with some of the guys we've mentioned here, and the midfield coaches can get some of these ideas into the overall game plan, they can triple-team Fevs, or true_blue24 wrote: the 2nd and 3rd player doesn't actually start on him they are just deliberately waiting in the area and when the kick comes they all contest for it as much as they like! History is full of coaches and players who have introduced new measures which have turned a team's or the game's fortunes .. who's to say that won't happen during the Carlton Resurgence of the Noughties!?

Ala the Doggies a few years back - docked the budget for the end-of-season trip with each missed shot on goal, or something to that effect. |

We are a little, but last Sunday we got over the line without a major influence from Fevola. What we need is guys like Fisher, Waite, Kennedy etc chipping in with 2-3 every game. But I do agree re: the point about kicking to Fev when Kennedy and Fisher were out and should have been hit up. |

YES..............indeed we do need these players to start chipping in with 2-3 goals a game.....................and they are MORE than capable of doing so too...................but they need some delivery & attention in order to do so! If Fev avg 4 goals a game and Fisher/Kennedy/Whitnall (or waite) add in their share of 2-3 each then your looking at a minimum of 10-14 goals each week EASY. Add in goals from our midfield and consistant score of over 100 points a week. The average score last weekend was 87points. |

hey ryan Quote: Walker @ $1001 for Brownlow & Carlton @ $6.50 to make the finals. 'I'm on em!"
Good selection if you got on Walks, he came in to $501 for the Brownlow after the NAB Cup ![]() |

Is this so bad? Fevola had about 10 shots for goal and I remember a couple of goals coming directly from spills caused by Fev crashing the pack. I would expect our guys to kick to to Fev one in three times entering fwd 50. He is the best target we have. |

Forget the clangers he had last year,.............he attracted the attention of some very respected coaches out. That shows respect. And at those odds..........it's worth a couple of bucks! |

apart from the shit the umpires served up, i thought this was the biggest downfall in our game today, especially early on in the game when we were getting a bit of the ball we looked for fev far too many times when he had about 3 opponents on him. |

Couldn't agree more TB. Time after time tonight, Fev was double and triple teamed, and we had loose players inside 50, and the ball-carrier went to Fev anyway. At half time, we were discussing that Pagan almost should have instructed Fev to be a decoy in the second half, and for the ball-carriers to NOT kick to Fev. If there are 3 on Fev, then 2 of our guys are on their own. |

Well it's the same old crap really and it just proves that there is no variety or imagination in our game plan. Game Plan. - Kick long to Fev Back up plan. - Flood. |

We were exposed tonight with our plan to kick to Fev on every opportunity. When Fev gets beaten we struggle to kick goals from alternative sources and the rebound really kills us. Geelong showed us that multiple avenues to goal make for a very potent forward line. If they play like that for the rest of the year they will give it a real shake. |
