..there's an article in the sun mentioning how our club should be already sounding out Vossy as a replacement at year's end for pagan.. ..it's a hard toss up.. ..on one hand you almost feel sorry for pagan having a shit list for so long, and when it's on the comeback trail he gets the chop..but on the other hand, we're on the comeback trail and if there's a better coach out there.. ..well, we want/need the best.. .on-field and off-field..

..there's alot of hype about vossy's ability, and his player credentials speak for themselves.. ..but in the end, if there's a better coach than pagan, whether vossy or anyone else...bottom line we need the best...best players, best coaches, best facilities etc etc..

i agree with you..
we need the best
he was a great captain, great leader.. but so was sticks..
i guess spending alot of time with leigh matthews would help his development in coaching but he has no trak record..he would merely be a guinny pig for his coaching development..no thanks..
ratten is scoring some runs in coaching development...so are many others.. like mark harvey.

Depending on how Pagan and the boys perform this year...

I think if we get 8 or more wins this year nothing will change. Any less and i think we'll see Ratts take the top job at the end of the year..

Maybe bring in vossy as an assistant for two or three years. Then wait and see how ratts and the boys perform...

What everyone must understand is that the performance of our young group must get better... Does'nt matter who's coaching...

This article is absolute drivel but I wouldn't expect anything less from Robinson.

He's just crapping on about Voss' leadership skills which has been very well documented in the past (zero points for original thought there Robbo), and I love this bit:

Quote:
He knows how the game should be played and, if you are still not convinced, remember that game-day tactics are devised by a coaching group and not an individual.

So what he's basically saying is don't worry if he can't actually coach, hopefully the assistants will take care of that.

Pfft.

I reckon anything less than 9th or 10th and Pagan is gawwwn.

Voss is more than welcome to join us as an assitant, more than welcomed, and show us his worth, but as for the head job  , I'm not prepared to go with an untried (not even assistant) with our group of kids. Do we want to do a STKILDA?

Not saying he will or won't make a top coach because no-one knows and that is a risk that isn't worth taking. From what I hear, Ratts is doing very well indeed.

I havent been able to say this for years but, i'm confident that if he is the right guy for the job our president will work it out and the heavens will align.

Certainly has the aura for the position. His communication skills are about as good as SOS', but he's barely started out in the media so I'm keen to see what that does for him.

Disagree with Robbo on what needs to be done by year's end for Pagan to retain his job though. The wins tally is unlikely to be a factor.

agree.. Buckley and Hird impress me far more then Vossy does re: the ability to sell the club/ articulate thoughts etc..
I have great respect for all three of them but Bucks would make a fantastic coach.

The following were great players....

Tim Watson
Peter Knights
Gary Ayres
Tony Shaw

All were shit coaches. That's just a few. Being a good player is no guarantee you can coach. We should learn from St Kilda's experience with Watson - an apprenticeship as an assistant is a must.

Barassi
Big Nick
Jezza
Wallsy

All great players all coached flags

Sheedy and Malthouse weren't that bad either

Never knew that commentary skills were a good guide to coaching skills.
