Is he serious? I wonder who the players would rather have around right now - Elshaugh or Ratten? And I wonder if it's just possible that our ability to run out games seemingly better than our opposition might have anything to do with a change in our conditioning coach?

Sticks loves the club, and as the article suggests i think even the man himself recognizes this, but the club will be better off with sticks just being quietly in the background, letting others suchs as Icke make the football dept. decisions.

You cant question the great Sticks' love for Carlton and there will always be respect for the bloke but perhaps it comes down to two things that - 1. he tries to be too amicable to all even when the situation requires the opposite and 2. perhaps he simply isn't cut-out to be calling the shots at the coalface and making these types of decisions

The Mitchell saga is still unacceptable for my liking but with the team seemingly on the up it has been relegated to a minor issue

I think this is a "repair job" by the club in regard to its media relations. Sticks "unloading" on a number of journos at the B&F would always invite pay back by them. Caro has been actively looking for negative angles (e.g. the Lance saga) even after the Board problems were solved.

I think this interview was given to patch things up with her. I think Tony is behind this.

The comment about Trout and Mulkearns is not unreasonable because they were sacked due to their relationship with Denis rather than due to poor performances by either of them.

That does not mean that their replacements are not upgrades, simply that Trout and Mulkearns did not deserve to be sacked.

Yes, maybe, perhaps not.

I prefer Ford's approach but there was nothing wrong with Mulkearns' training plan or the team's fitness in previous years. To suggest otherwise is far too simplistic.

Good article. It is people like sticks that our club needs, through good and bad, he remains loyal and shows his emotions. Graham S should of bottled it when he had the chance.

Agree with JohnM and Marciblue about Kernahan, but we've had that debate before.

A couple of things to come out...

Shock horror, Caro writing a positive story about Carlton!!! No one seems to have made mention of that. As I wrote on another thread last week, Caro writes about off-field matters, and she writes it as it is. As we get out house in order, she will write positive stuff about us.

The other thing is that Murphy comes out of contract at the end of this year. That means he was only given a 2-year contract when we drafted him. Interesting, as I think most assumed he was given a longer deal.

All draftees score a two-year contract, as do all interstate rookies.

I think you can toss on an extension option, but both parties have to agree.

At last Wednesday's gala night, Sticks mentioned that he "had an appointment he'd been avoiding for the last 7 months with 'Caro'" on Thursday (the next day).

He really was adamant that it was going to be "a quick one", and that he "couldn't get out of it".

But it's "much easier today than it was 7 months ago".

A couple of crownies would loosen up the nerves....or something like that.

I also got the impression that when Sticks mentioned Elshaugh and Mulkearns, he was referring to the way that they were let go, not that he thinks they should still be employees of the club. In ther end, for all the factional back-biting they were the only two obvious casualties from the footy department.

I found it very difficult to read this article without my 'caroline-wilson-doesn't-really-like-the-CFC' glasses on. So, in some ways I agree with Andain - I'm not sure it was wholly positive.

I definitely don't think the article was written with a positive angle in mind from the author. It's more of a supposed warts and all account of Sticks' role at the club over recent years.

Sticks is great. A Carlton great. But his time on the board is past. I believe he would be far better off acting in a mentoring role and acting as a conduit between players and board, if required. But only in a guest role, not as an offical board capacity, much the same as Rod Ashman is reported to be working.
