Watching Danyle Pearce run around for Port yesterday I was prompted to look at the rules for the Rising Star. It occurred to me that he had been around for a while and I couldn't see how he could be considered in the same group as Murphy, Raines and Heath Shaw. It turns out that he played 7 games in 2005 before playing all 22 in 2006.

The rules for the Rising star award state that the player has to be under 21 on 1 Jan of the year and have played less than 10 games (and not be suspended).

Josh Kennedy played 9 games last year and was not nominated meaning he is eligible for the award this year. I reckon Kennedy might be worth a lazy couple of bucks for this award....

Very hard for a key position player to win the award, save your money.

He'd be in with a shot, but last years crop of draftees and some one like Xavier Ellis will be very hard to beat.

Boy, didn't Mitch Brown look impressive last night?!

Good size about him, strong marking and very athletic.

Thought the same thing about Brown. Strong, penetrating, accurate kick - very much the West Coast style.

If Gibbs doesn't step up straight away, I couldn't care less if he does or doesn't, Pendlebury will win it this year.

Agree that the kid Mitch Brown looked very good in a high pressure game - he could be a chance for it...

Agree on Mitch Brown......looked very capable and with his strong body reminded me of a young Glen Jakovich.
Not much fanfare about him before the draft but he seems a ready made complete player.....to play so well in a high pressure game shows he has a bright future.

Gibbs should easily gain the 2047 votes he needs to win it

BULLSHIT!

Softest bloke running around in the AFL at the moment.

A gust of wind could blow past that bloke and he'd be having nightmares for a week.
