From: http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/real ... 55745.html Car'n the Pies — truth about those Blues Geoff McClure March 23, 2007 IF YOU did a list of football truisms, right at the top would be that Collingwood supporters despise the Blues and vice versa. But while all of that may well be accurate in a typically footy sense, we now discover the same cannot be said about Blues fans and their feeling towards the "other" pies — you know, the ones we eat. In fact, quite the reverse is the case — not only are they meat-pie crazy, but they are quite significantly so, and we even have the statistics to prove it. You see, in sifting through his venue consumption notes, the Telstra Dome boss Ian Collins recently unearthed a quite amazing stat. He discovered that on a typical AFL game day involving teams other than Carlton, the consumption of meat pies at his stadium usually equates to one pie for six people. But in games involving the Blues (and this didn't just happen once or twice but, he realised, had been going on for some time) the rate changes quite dramatically to one for four (or, to be precise, 3.9). ..... In fact, to give you an idea of how many pies Dome staff always order, the 3.9 ratio for the 46,094 fans who turned up for the final equated to a consumption of 11,818, which is 4136 more than would have been the case had the Blues not been playing. ![]() What a bunch of pigs we are!! Why do Carlton supporters eat more pies?? Any theories? |

Any chance to get one over a Pie is a chance worth taking. |

Given the contents of a pie, I'd reckon it's the pie getting one over the consumer. |

He's no Pie Eater won in Sydney a few weeks ago and paid about $60. I can see now why I didn't back it, but no excuse for my Hawthorn supporting mate. |

Who says it's actually CARLTON supporters eating the pies?? All it says is that pie sales are higher at Carlton matches. My theory is that opposition supports have gotten so bored with beating us senseless that they need to go have something to eat. ![]() In a few years roles will be reversed and we'll be beating them senseless. Watch beer sales skyrocket. ![]() |

I used to put off joining food queues for fear of missing a goal. I haven't had that problem since 2001. |

It must be true. Twice I went to buy a pie last Saturday night and they were sold out. How can you sell out of pies at the football? That is unbelievable. That is like selling out of Chicken at KFC (well sort of). Collo is making excuses for his lack of pie supply last Saturday night. |

So how do the they explain running out of 1)chips?.... 2)and sauce packets?..... 3) napkins 4) spoons for the ice cream after you've bought the little cardboard tub... ....Give me a break... And Collo can add... 5).... not letting people out.....????.... 6)....and the kids not being allowed to kick the footy inside ..which means not at all in combination with previous 7) selling wine, (and I believe Burbon) but not full strength beer..... That's ok...MCG is just as hopeless, although I assume they are still alowing pass outs.... Upshot for the Flower heads...Start taking the kids less and less....No pies, no chips, no sauce, no napkins no icecream and no kicking the footy at half time or after the game. ...and I would actually suggest not taking the kids to the footy....what a selfish dad I am |

I think there's a fairly obvious reason... Eat more pies ==> turn pies into shit... It's a Navy Blue allegory |

I think we're the only group of supporters that can afford to buy food at the footy, or maybe since we've moved to TD, we've not been too fussed about missing out on seeing the footy and will happily queue for pies. |

They were the best pies. I reckon OO was the las footy ground where you could get a Big M too. Unless they sell them at TD and the MCG? I wouldn't know because I always bring my own gear. *waits as someone turns the last sentence in to a sentence relating to Ben Cousins* |
