Post subject: | Humurous/Interesting stories? |
G'day I'm just planning a short presentation for a uni tutorial - the instructions were to explain something that you know well so I've picked the Mighty Carlton Football Club. Just wondering if anyone could help with some humurous stories about ex/current players to help maintain the interest of some of the less football loving (read stupid) classmates of mine ![]() Any help would be appreciated Cheers |

TheCarlton players had to run down Sydney rd, from Fawkner to the ground, as pre season trining. It may have been punishment. Percy Jones caught a tram at least part of the way. .. |

Hi there My favourite footy story doesn't involve the Blues but West Coast. A Uni mate of mine got drafted by them in the early 90's and went over for a year. On a pre season p*ss up on Rottnest Island they had a competition to see who could pick up the ugliest woman. Dwayne Lamb apparently won hands down! The funny part of the story being that he ended up marrying the woman! Apparently it was never spoken of again........ |

The runner came out to Jim Buckley during a game passing on instructions when Jim Buckley asked him to place a bet on the races whilst the game was on. The umpire Glen James hearing this asked him if he could do the same for him. |

it didnt start with Jim...i heard Glenn James tell this story, it was Crackers Keenan at the opening boune saying 'dont bounce that ball jamesy im not ready' then HE called the runner and gave him the horse, race, and phone account number...Jim Buckley and Glenn James over-heard and put $10 each way on the horse also... long story short, halfway through the 2nd quarter the ball is in North Melbourne's forward 50 and Glenn James bounces the ball, Jim Buckley runs in from the side and jumps on Cracker's back...Glenn James says 'that was stupid Jim why did ya do that you just gave a free kick away right infront of goal!'...to which Jim says 'stuff the free kick look at the scoreboard! (race results used to be on the scoreboard) it payed $12.50 we got the bickies mate!' Nic |

Glenn James is one of the game's true gentlemen and also one of the best umpires I have ever seen. Was one of the last of the umpires who you could crack a joke with during the game. But he wouldn't take any shit. Just ask Kevin Bartlett - a frustrated KB gave Glenn James a mouthful during the 1982 Grand Final - and Glenn told him to put a sock in it and behave himself in no uncertain terms. Kevin was very contrite after that. These days it would 'racial villification' and crucifixition first offence. Good Bloke is Glenn James. ![]() |

The one he had with Gags Gallagher (their first together) was the 'Blush & Stutter.' Apparently the name was decided on after Gags told Percy that the upstairs area was a popular gay bar! There's more about Perce's misadventures in his bio on the Blueseum. A great player and a classic Aussie larrikin. |

A great player and a classic Aussie larrikin. The first pub Perc ever owned was called The Dover, which was located at the city end of Lygon St. When Perc and Gags sold that (making a massive profit in the process), they then bought Blush and Stutters an that was less of a success. |

Why on earth would you willingly slander/throw mud at the reputation of one of the greatest champions this club has ever seen? No-one benefits from it. At least hang shit on champions from other clubs in future |
