My girlfriend started to defend Wiggins as she said I bag him too much....... He was a 1st round draft pick and I suppose he will always be judged harshly because of it.

His decision making scares me.... his mind looks like it's racing at 100 miles an hour when he has time on his hands. A bit better when he doesn't have to think as was the case when he kicked his two goals on the weekend.

He's been ok this year and that was his best game for the club. But I think he has played his 50 games now so it's taken a long while for him to stamp some authority on a game.

He's a trier at best in my opinion. But good luck to him..... he has to keep it up.

Its my Molsey appreciation society.

But, seeings as you only just "put in", I suppose its not worth having!

The last Molsey apprecation society went under due to lack of funds, tyrant. Perhaps a Carrazzo appreciation society will be more of interest to the punters out there.

Wiggo's stats look even better when the 20 mins he was on the bench are taken into account.

Keep it up Wiggler!

The Chief gained two votes in my B&F. The kid can really play when he is given a free run at it.

Wiggo played in the forward line a bit in his first senior year when we were a top 4 contender and generally did quite well. I remember some nice running goals and he seemed chock full of confidence and I thought "this kid will be a real handy player".

Then the following year everything turned to shit and all of a sudden Wiggo is being used as a back pocket or tagger and basically given responsibility for stopping some very talented midfielders and small forwards; and when you are on the end of some spankings as a team it can really shoot your confidence if you are having goals kicked on you.

For me, the whole defining moment of the 2002 season was that Geelong game at TD, when we had fought like madmen to peg back a huge lead, got in front with 15 secs to go, only for Riccardi to mark and goal after the siren.

I have no doubt and never will that Wiggo got at least all five fingers (if not the palm of his hand too) on that ball. And the look on the kid's face in the aftermath was just sheer devestation.

Personally, I think that moment in particular, and that season in general, really took its toll on Wiggo and really destroyed his confidence and self-belief.

It it takes time to recover from that sort of struggle, but he was showing some signs of getting there last year when we threw himself on a grenade for the team and lost most of the rest of his season. Now, this year, he is getting some game time and into the swing of things. Staurday night should be a massive shot in the arm for him and I am confident he will keep improving.

As Prenda, Fev and Houla could probably attest - it must make a world of difference to your self-esteem and confidence if a guy like Denis Pagan believes in you and sees you as a valuable member of the team. It is clear that Pagan values him greatly, and it must be a huge shot in the arm for him.

Finally, if we are to make the next step into finals territory, these guys like Wiggins, Sporn, Prenda etc need to step up and be counted. They are the next level of leadership at the club; and just like Dean Rice and Peter Dean in the mid 90s, there is as much room for the tough, uncompromising, hard-nose sons of bitches in the leadership as there is for the flashy, 30+ possessions a game types.

The only person who will stop Wiggo from reaching that point is Simon Wiggins himself.

Go the Wiggler!!

Wiggins is better away from defense and seems to have more confidence without the burden of minding a man.
Played his best game and showed he has some attacking skills with a couple of nice goals where he read the play well.
I would like to think they would keep him in the midfield and let him develop even at the expense of a player like Campo who has to come back into the team.
Wiggo needs to back up this week with another good game or he will be back under the microscope...ditto for Brett Johnson

Huge Wiggo fan myself. But be honest folks, probably one of the least talented players running around in the entire AFL. But he is the ultimate hard slogging, heads down, backend up footsoldier.Never gunna be a household name. But shit hes got balls.Never gonna be a walkup start in our team, and i reckon he just escapes the selectors chop on a weekly basis.Just seems to hang in there by the skin of his teeth.

Never understood the abuse that this kid gets. One of the toughest and 100% committed players at the club. Is better then many think. Another player thats suffered playing in the last line of defence.
Keep stick'in it up 'um Wiggo!

Enormous damage done to psyche of young players livo wiggins and to a lesser extent sporn in 2002 and 2003 when playing in a backline continually under siege with little or no leadership from senior players. :?
The only one that didnt go backwards for a while after and during this period was thorton who continued playing good football.
Always thought wiggins was a player and in 2001 when playing in a good side played with much more freedom when not placed in the back pocket.Agree he always shows 110% commitment but dont agree that he doesnt have skills just needs to have the freedom of not being made into a dour back pocket
He gets a game regularly because the coach thinks he is a good player with potential

I don't know about that Mick. I reckon he might surprise you.

He has no obvious weaknesses, besides maybe what's in his head.

He's strong, tall for a small and quick. Good leap too. Also, hard as nails.

He just needs to find his groove and he could easily be a best 18 player for us.

NICE TO SEE A WIGGO APPRECIATION THREAD INSTEAD OF A BAG THE SHIT OUT OF WIGGO THREAD, AS HAS BEEN COMMON PLACE IN THE PAST ON OTHER FORUM SITES

IVE LIKED WIGGO SINCE HE STARTED HIS CAREER AND ITS GOOD TO SEE HIM GOING WELL. HE HAS SHOWN SOME PATCHES OF QUALITY PERFORMANCE BEFORE AND I JUST HOPE THAT HE WILL MAKE IT A HABIT

I think we should start a "how and when to use the caps lock key" thread.
