What a lovely change it is for the Blues to get some positive press... I'll have to stop the editing I was planning for Gareth Trickey's wikipedia entry... |

Cutting edge journalism from Mark 'Nostradamus' Robinson: Quote: Thirteen players are missing from that joyous and misguided night in 2005.
Ten have left the club. The other three – Jordan Bannister, Simon Wiggins and David Teague didn't play against the Kangas. Two of them will be lucky to play seniors again. Cut out the commentary, Mark. ![]() |

A good set of articles indeed, and exactly the sort of positive press the club needed. I'm puzzled about one thing - Pagan's comment to the match committee that the players he drafted in 2003 would be lucky to still be around in two years. One has to ask why they were drafted then? Anyway, otherwise it was great to be given such positive coverage ![]() |

Quote: "Our midfield used to be Kouta and Nick and now it's changed dramatically," Pagan said.
hahaha no mention of Campo. |

Thats because chasing "cheapy" out the back handballs from around the half back line and playing on after taking the kickouts after a behind is kicked to boost up your stats does not make a mid-fielder. ![]() |

yeah but Hird was tak.... sorry. I personally think that while we've got a bad run in the press in the last 5 years, we've bloody deserved it. We've been so shit in every department, on and off field. Only makes sense that with legitimate positives now coming to light at the club, legitimately positive articles will surface. |

Anyway, otherwise it was great to be given such positive coverage ![]() This is the basis of my biggest criticism of Pagan’s tenure at Carlton. He went into self-preservation mode big time at the end of 2003 for his own benefit and for the fact that he essentially sh!t himself with the way we were capitulating and imploding towards the end of 2003. Pagan was so concerned with how totally uncompetitive we were towards the end of 2003 that he wanted to boost our list with tried, mature bodies to put a stop to the massive blowouts that were happening in the second half of 2003. The problem was that not only were we still on the end of some fearful shellackings in 2004 (dees and aints games spring to mind!!! ![]() In 2005 it all came home to roost though… |

Hey Marci, keep in mind that Ian Collins was considering not fielding a team in 2003 because of the penalties. Said there was no way they'd be competitive enough going forward. You got that right, Ian. I'm down with the retreads - I think it was a necessary evil at the time. |

I like the option where we end up with Murphy and Gibbs on our list ... |

I'm down with the retreads - I think it was a necessary evil at the time. Maybe - but consider this for a killer mid-field for the next 10 years going forward: - Deledio - Murphy - Gibbs insert salivating emoticon here "----" . ![]() |

I'm down with the retreads - I think it was a necessary evil at the time. I agree it was a necessary evil but DP took it to the extreme. The trade/draft approach in 2003 should’ve been more balanced |

I'm down with the retreads - I think it was a necessary evil at the time. Collins told Pagan to rebuild the list! He is on record as saying so. He was only considering handing in the keys because of the finances HTP. As for not fielding a team because of being uncompetitive, I'd love to know where you got that one from . ![]() Pagan thought Carlton could be a final 8 contender if he got mature bodies in and played his direct, collision style of game. He made the decision and to those suggesting there were no options, nonsense. Pagan was offered the option to rebuild the list and instead he took the quick fix. |

So did most of us on TBV at the time BV ![]() Not having a dig at you, I honestly can't remember what your stance was at the time. I do remember though that most of us were rapted with the likes of your Morells, Mcgraths, Teagues etc. Even wallsy thought Pagan did a great job in 04, but now on reflection says he took the easy option. |

no point drafting kids with shitty picks if you know that they also are not gonna be the future. |
