I was recently thinking about the role of "supporter apparel" and how much it seems to vary between Carlton supporters when at a game or even out in public.

Everyone has their own personal 'style' and attached to that are also certain memories of what we - as supporters - used to wear, or wore to the football. This leads me into my next point...

Is there a certain age where you find that you need to "ditch" the Carlton guernsey/playing strip? Any items that you have had that have been passed down through generations? Memories of your first guernsey/beanie/scarf given to you?

I have included a few questions below... feel free to answer them as it would be interesting to find out what we all wear to the football and any other memories associated with Carlton "fashion"

1. What do you wear to the football?
Fubu Jacket and Carlton guernsey, jeans!

2. How many Carlton guernsey's have you owned?
Three in total, #8 (Troy Bond), #43 (Anthony Koutoufides), #12 (Matthew Lappin)

3. Oldest item of Carlton apparel that you own?
Would have to be my scarf, have had it since birth (29 years)

4. Next item that you are going to purchase?
The Carlton alternative playing strip

That'll do for now... can't think of any other relevant questions, would be interested to hear though on the 'age limit' for wearing a Carlton guernsey, I was reading in the AFL Record last year that it should be ditched after your teens, but I still wear mine (14 years going strong!)

Regards, Shaun (Sticks1977) :) [/b]

First of all - I don't think a guernsey should not be worn after a certain age... I have *and which reminds me I need to grab it from my folks place* a duffel jacket, circa 1980s... Kenny Hunter's number IIRC - a whole lot of signatures on the back and player badges on the arms...

1. What do you wear to the football?
***Carlton guernsey, heavy jacket with woolen underline for cold days, Jeans... and always ALWAYS - take 2 scarfs, one for me and one for the unfortunate non-Carlton supporting friend I might drag along! :-D

2. How many Carlton guernsey's have you owned?
***3 - Junior woolen with long sleeves (#1 SOS), Woolen short sleeves (#1 SOS  ) and my current one, no player number - still has the mayne logo *I need to find one of those Dan Murphy stickers to whack on it!* :P

3. Oldest Carlton apparel that you own?
***My scarf *since birth, from nana!*, and a old fashioned beanie with the pom pom thing on the top... which reminds me, is it just me, or are the 'new look' scarves they are bringing out look shithouse or what!?

4. Next item that you are going to purchase?
***A junior Carlton guernsey for my 8 year old brother...

What age should that be? I've only just had one bought for me, which I wear to work on the Mondays after we win, and I wear the supporter's shirt on the Friday beforehand.

1. What do you wear to the football?
The supporter's shirt, white runners, jeans, Carlton cap. I will probably be wearing the guernsey now, and the supporter's shirt on the Monday / Friday. The scarf and windcheater came to OO/PP too .. the scarf came with me to R22 2005, as well .. I do the "sheeds spin" with it when winning

2. How many Carlton guernseys have you owned? Just the one, bought for me for my birthday last year

3. Oldest Carlton apparel that you own? The cap I wear to the footy .. I bought it in about 2002 and it's really battered .. I think that shows me as a better supporter than the membership cap. The membership cap came out for the last game at OO/PP

4. Next item that you are going to purchase? Wouldn't mind another guernsey, or supporter's shirt.

Sorry, either you misunderstood - or I screwed up with a double negative or something... :)

What I was trying to say, is that you should be able to wear a guernsey at ANY age!! :-D

I rarely get to go to the footy but when I do and always on game day I wear my carlton g.

My oldest carlton piece of apparel is a duffle coat with badges etc on it and the no.33 on the back and a scarf from vfl days, not sure how old.

strangely have never had a guernsey (my kids have).

Not sure what I will purchase next.

1. What do you wear to the football?
Jeans, Polo Shirt beneath my sleeveless guernsey, or if its bloody cold i wear a thick carlton fleece jumper beneath the guernsey

2. How many Carlton guernsey's have you owned?
Five: #4 (Sticks), #4 (Sticks again), #7 (Brett Ratten), #11 (Barnaby French), and now #1 (Andy Walker) i decided on Walker's number 1 as i love the kid, and i've worn the #1 every year for every club since i began playing footy 9years ago so it'll stick with me for a long time to come yet!

3. Oldest item of Carlton apparel that you own?
My First Carlton Jumper was signed by select members of the 1993 Team, (my cousin was until recently, married to David Kernahan, Sticks' brother and i was paigeboy at the wedding so i took my jumper and pestered Justin Madden all night!)

4. Next item that you are going to purchase?
Either the Alternate Strip guernsey, or the Training Singlet (got to train for my triathlons in style..why look ugly when i can be at the pinnacle of fashion? haha)

Circa 1987 -1990 no.17 Mark Naley -long sleeved with the arms rolled up

Circa 1992 -2002 no. 43 Guess who- another long sleeved one signed by the man himself. The signature wore off due to using it at footy training twice a week.
