Well dont post on here much guys, but i thought after making the trek up from Hobart i would fill some of you guys in Melbourne and the rest of Australia in some aspects of the night!

Firstly arrived at the ground and had to go pick up the tickets, met my parents in Launceston, both Carlton supporters, they are from Devonport so we had to go and pick up the tickets, never been to york park before and had no idea where to go but big Robert Gronweraggon was on the Megaphone directing people to different gates and offering help to anyone who needed it, he is ground operations manager, pretty impressive from him being out helping all the punters, dont know if i ever remember seeing collo do this at the Telstra Dome.

Made our way in at 6:00, thought i was going to miss the bounce, but found our seats straight away, underneath the broadcast camera on your TV screens, we were on the 2nd tier, to our left were the commentary and coaches boxes, and to our right Sir Richard Pratt sat with i assume his wife, a couple of other dignitries, maybe his new PA down at Carlton the ex HS journo, Also over there were Wayne Hughes and Shaun Grigg, was gunna go over and ask griggs how close he was and if him and Paul Bower were close, was also gunna thank hughesy for the selections, but the group left with about 5 minutes to go, i assume to be on the ground or in the change rooms, because when the siren rang out, Sir Richard was on the ground conducting, singing and dancing in front of our stand which was probably 3/4 full of Carlton people. I think the club did well, membership stand which i couldnt get near to rejoin so i will just do it on the net, all the players came out to sign autographs and the kids loved it. Good work by the club seemed to cash in and make the most of this trip to tassie.

We clearly outnumber the Hawks supporters at the ground they got booed heaps. A few in game comments, Russell tagged bateman the whole game, followed him everywhere, even to the bench, worked his ass of did Jordan, maybe a year like walker had 2 years ago just tagging the good opposition players.

Murphy unbelievable, the kid is going to be so good, doesnt shirk a contest and goes in hard and finds the footy and is so composed doesnt blaze away and always picks the right option.

Big JK took some really good marks and led well, i still think the team looks for fev to much, maybe our of instinct but this will change, it also maybe could have had to do with the fact that he was playing on Dawson,

I had forgotton how good it is going to football live, you get so much more of an appreciation about the game and the work players do off the ball, cant wait to get back to melbourne this year i havent been for the last couple to watch the footy, Also my favourite player walker i thought played well, one time when he turned it over in the 2nd quarter he just had know one to kick too, i think he gets unfairly critised he tries to beak lines out of defence and create sometimes he does spray them but sometimes he also has nothing to kick too. His left foot skills were particularly good.

Also did anyone listen to ABC radio, that was one of my mates commentating Alistair Nicholson, he is an abc journalist in hobart, what did you guys think of him? i think he calls ok, but is a little bit monotone, doesnt get exicted enough, makes you appreciate how good dan lonergan, tim lane and grybas are

cheers

He ain't called 'big' Robert Gronoewagon for nothing.

If anyone has 'the' Footscray Team Photo circa 1982 - with 'big' Robert sitting on the bench legs akimbo - with his old fella hanging out for all to see and a big grin on his face.

Pretty sure that this Team Poster is very sort after in the Football Memorabilia Market.

Warbs - if you have it you may want to post it on your scrapbook - maybe the moderators can set up a special "R" rated sealed section. :P

G'day Skippers Blues,

I didn't hear the call on Saturday night living up here in Brisbane - but am interested to hear Alistair Nicholson (Albs) got to call the game. I know the guy a little bit, and all I can say is that his heart beats Blue. He just loves Carlton, and the chance for him to call one of our games would have been great for him. Now, we just need him to be calling a Tassie win from bellerive in the Pura Cup final in a few weeks time! Go Tassie Tigers!!!

Now I've compsoed myself - good post Skippers, it is great to hear how much the Blueboys playing in Tassie meant to all the people down there. Gee, the last time I saw Carlton play in Tassie was against North Melbourne in 1997 (I think?) against North Melbourne at North Hobart Oval. Before that, I remember us blitizing Fitzroy at North Hobart in maybe 1993? I think Mil Hanna got about 6 goals that day, and Parkin was talking him up as a full-forward!

yeah alby's a good man and does love the BlueBaggers, had a good sense of humour in the box, was a bit one eyed in their as swan was in there as well. It was fantastic to see the lads and quite a number of people travelled up from Hobart to see them play, i would say it would have got them some memberships with a good win too,

Long time no read Skipper.

Great to read one of your posts again.

Thanks for the feedback.

Wouldn't have known the Russell role without your input.

So there was obviously instances where there was another option other than Fev, but our player(s) went for the Fev option. Please elaborate if you can. This is very important as we allknow that we must be multi dimensional when going to goals.

Great to have you back on the forum.

Go Tassie Tigers, but more importantlt Thanks Tasmania for making our players feel so welcome in an 'away' game. We now know that is Blue territory.

Hey Skippers,

Great to hear that you had a good time. Fantastic to see the blues win live, eh?

Unfortunately my (football hating) gf had taken time off work for us to go camping last weekend . . . and there was no way I could back out of it to go to the game. To borrow a line off Deano . . .

UNPRECEDENTED

Strahan in no way made up for missing the blues in Tas.

For sure. Lots of support for the powerhouse Melbourne teams down here. It's easy to assume that we're a Hawthorn loving state but that is far from the truth . . . It would be great to see the bigger (& better) teams play down here more often.

Yeah sometimes i think players get unfairly criticised on here without people fully knowing there roles, i am not sure what Batemans stats were saturday night, but usually the guy goes pretty well against us, he hardly had an influential kick, Russell wore him like a glove, the kid looks bigger and fitter and i reckon he will have a great year. Because when he does get the ball he uses it well and he has pace, two things we lack.

On the Fev issue, just a couple of times i thought Kennedy has found a little space kick it to him, but they opted with Fev, this could probably have to do with the fact that Zac Dawson was on fev and they were told to try and isolate him and fev, as he struggled on fev. But Kennedy is bigger and stronger than last year and it didnt happen very often, maybe its just habbit they are not used to having another target to kick too.

Yeah the Tassie Tigers are definitly into the pura cup final and provided they dont lose outright in the last game will host it.

I was just curious was it obvious on TV that there were far more Carlton supporters at the game?

Hehe, bad luck about missing the game mate, yeah bloody good fun, havent seen a live game for a few years, it was good to see two traditional melbourne powerhouses down here for a game, i think we have geelong and hawthorn this year two instead of just the hawks interstate games, will be good to see more of this happening in the next few years.

Tim Lane wrote a good aritcle in the Age that i just read on their website about relocating the Kangas over here and not to the gold coast was pretty interesting, made a lot of sense too

Very heartening and unexpectedly loud support for Carlton at a Hawks 'home' game...and a lot of booing for the Hawks

I swear it sounded at least 2 to 1 in Carlton's favour, but others have described it as 3 to 1 in decibel measurement, and I kind of agree.

A real stand out we the Carlton supporters on the TV coverage.

Go the Map o' Tassie Blues.
