I would bring in Bower and Hampson for Youngy and Saddo.
I would run Andrew Walker with Luke Hodge and instruct him to be 3rd man up at every stoppage he can. I'd instruct the players to ensure a 3rd person was up at all ruck contests they could to get the ball in space as much as possible.
If Mitchell cant get his hands on the contested ball, he will be a liability.
I would rotate Gibbs through the midfield.
I would play Carrazzo on Mitchell.
He has been midfield in all match simulations since he came to Carlton and Pagan played him wing and half back last week. :?

I really liked Clokes game last week and his hard running was a feature. I'd play he and ackland as ruck/deep forwards.
I'd play Kennedy at half forward and Fev at FF. The key would be to spread the hawks backs as much as possible to avoid them dropping off to assist. They lack size and our players will fancy their chances one on one.

I'd play setanta on Buddy. He has the size and pace to match him IMO and he has the attacking mindset to exploit Franklin going the other way.

We need to be proactive in the midfield. Last week we allowed Essendon* to dictate terms in the second half. Sheedy played Hird, Stanton and Peverill in the guts in the last quarter because Walker, Russell and Kouta followed them in. Carrazzo was previously winning our clearances yet he was following Davey around. We should dictate who we want in the middle, not follow opponents around like sheep.
Especially as we were dictating the early clearances.
Put our preferred players in and let the opposition adapt.

I'd play Shaun Hampson and give him 5 minutes on the ball per quarter and let him run around at half forward occasionally.
The main ingredient is to have a plan to follow. The players need to know that we'll be looking to clear every stoppage into space and to have pace around the periphery.
Hawthorn look to run and carry and handball to create. We need to apply maximum pressure and to get them to panic with their handball.

Lets hope we go hard and go well.

A fair summary BV. Looks like you didn't get your two talls though. Bentick will give us more grunt in the guts for a slight loss of overall run. I thought they might have had a look at Grigg given the size of the ground.

Still, I smell a win.

Anybody know about radio coverage? Do they have radio in tassie yet?

Matchups are a bit off (especially the double tag on Hodge!) compared to what happened but I like your ruck strategies with Walker.

Also enjoyed how well we positioned through the midfield depending on the situation, especially defensively (well most of the time - good to see we're now forcing teams to run and carry though), and how guys didn't cramp our 50 arc because they were all running like headless chooks.

Don't know how well we'd hold up against some of the better running sides against the gameplan the Hawks employed. Their mistake this time was that they combined it with a highly stagnant forward four that were in place to capitalise on our turnovers. Clearly we didn't deliver for them as much as they were hoping. Signs of progress?

I was disappointed when Hodge went third man up and both Crawford and Mitchell ran ahead of the ball - Mitchell received it (without anyone near him); gave it to Crawford (also without anyone near him) who was able to have a shot on goal

Mitchell is like Greg Williams....several possies ahead of everyone else...he has run to where the ball will be before its arrived.
He is also has the Robert Harvey ability to break tackles and keep his balance and still dish off and find a man.

Bentick will get rubbished for his game tonight but I think Sam Mitchell is a class act and a most underated player.....AB will be a better player for playing on him and knowing where the bar is and its gives him a goal to aim for....

Only happened once though.

Was smart play by Hodge.

Speaking of knock-ons, it's something that's really lacking from our game, and should be encouraged more, especially considering how poor our vision is when disposing by hand. If it's not a lofted handball that puts a team mate under pressure, it's a shot to the toes that Andre Agassi would be proud of, or handballing to a bloke who's under more pressure than the disposer was.

Tonight was an exception with knock-ons. Still cringe when we go by hand though, and it shouldn't be the case.
