"In junior sport you see a lot of kids dominate and I was always the one who never let him. I just made roles for him within the team and in some scenarios in under 13s and under 15s that he wasn't allowed to kick, because he used to get the ball so often.

"I used to get players in our own team to tag him and everytime he got the ball he had to give it off to them. I guess that's why he's such a team-oriented player and it's his first instinct every time.

I reckon Gibbs Snr is the sort of bloke we need mentoring some of the kids at the club.

Both Gibbs' seem like quality people.

I was happy with Gibbsy. Everything he did was class.
He looks polished and like Murph is very team orientated.

Keep playing him.

As a matter of fact id be playing him in the forward line instead of Lance.

West Coast and Adelaide will still be cringing at coming so close to securing the budding gun under the AFL's controversial father-son rule. But Gibbs snr's disappointment at not playing the required 150 games for West Perth (he played 97) and timeframe rules, which counted only 191 of his 253 games for Glenelg when Adelaide needed 200, meant their loss was Carlton's big gain.

I remember back to when I was a kid, and for some reason (that none of my rely's could work out) I idolised this young bloke from West Perth - Ross Gibbs.
They couldn't work out why I was so interested in a West Perth player because I was an East Perth supporter like my dad. I still hated West Perth, I just thought Gibbs was an excellent player.
It is like a young Melbournian Carlton supporter saying I like Nathan Buckley!

Well folks, if Bryce leaves his ol' man for dead like they say he does, then strap yourselves in for the ride!

The guy hosting the comp asked us, 'as in Bryce?' & we got chatting to him, turned out he'd seen Ross play & said he was one of the best footy players he'd seen.

He was one of the best WA/SA players from that era never to play VFL.
Stephen Michael was probably the only one that I could think of that was better. (Dual Sandover Medallist, Simpson Medallist, etc).
Gibbs snr's ability to read the play was A1.

Was terrific in the final intraclub match, but is yet to show all that much in the slightly more 'real' stuff. Kind of good in a way, because once he settles a bit more, there should be a whole lot more genuine footy pleasure to come.

Great article and liked the fact that his old man tagged him with a teammate and gave him rules that he wasn't allowed to kick and handball it off, but my favorite quote was this...
