Can anyone recall watching players of yesteryear, get an absolute bath to the point where you can pinpoint it as being the time you thought "yep, that's the end of them"? I can remember a game from 1998 where Michael Sexton got an absolute bath from Chris Grant to the point where I thought that he no longer had it. Admittedly he hung around for another season and a half, but at the same time, was never the same after that. Any similiar thoughts? |

The day I heard we recruited Stephen O'Reilly. I knew then it was the end of the road for him. The club definitely jumped the shark that day. |

Sorry Fellas But This IS Carlton In the days when we were KINGS We cut, sacked or moved our champions on prior to them being past it. St Kilda were the carlton 2nds for a very long time The champion players since 1998 have had the luxury of playing till they drop. This is part of what led us to destruction. Mark Maclure at a BBQ I attended asked David Parkin what he noticed about every player in attendence. The answer " I SACKED everyone of them" Go through our great Teams o the 80's and Early 90's you'll see what I mean! |

Trading Porter for McKernan was our shark-jumper for mine. I cannot remember ever being so disgusted at a trade before or since. |

Round 15, 1998 - A no-name first season player (was it his debut) for the Tigers, Justin Plapp, embarrassed our great general in defence, Peter Dean, at a night game at the MCG. Plapp kicked 5, a number of them simple goals where Deany just had a shocker. Although we probably knew Deany was in his last year, this was the night that confirmed it for all. |

Can remember 2 games in 05 where he was just left for the wolves, by playing on blokes he should never have been played on and possibly cost us matches. The first was being moved off Hall onto O'Loughlin for the last, who just ran him around, and the second was being left on Mark Williams in the last quarter, who was far too quick for him. Unlucky was Livo. |

Hopefully the club becomes ruthless with the playing group again over time. Hanging onto and moddycoddling players builds a poor culture and makes the playing group more powerful than they should be. molsey, ...... Deany?? |

The reason why Livo never had a bag kicked on him was that he was usually sitting on the bench after his opponent had kicked 3 goals. |

I dont even remember his opponant kicking 3 on him very often. Given the lack of accountability in our midfield over the last few years Livo did a good job while he was out there. We sacrificed Livo and Glen Manton to allow Mick Martyn to play 300 games 
I'm not sure which champions had the opportunity to play on past their use by date. Allan, Beaumont & Co. weren't really champions and they were ushered out the door. As was Campo when it was obvious he wasn't interested in playing for the Navy Blue colours. Ratten and Hickmott were cut down by injury, SOS and McKay retired at the top of their game, Bradley was talked into retiring |
