An opportunity exists for us to expand our support base around the country after the Kangaroos failed so miserably. I was involved in meetings early on in the piece when the Kangaroos first hit the Sydney market and was extremely suprised to see how poor they really were. Campbelltown were traditionally Navy Blue and only changed their colours with their temp alliance. I can say that they are a well run club who are on the rise again in the Sydney Comp although I wish they would stop targeting my players to cross over.

Nice get, Mark.

Long story short, but I approached the Roos years back to help them firm up the Sydney market. An idea which would have worked, too. I didn't even get the courtesy of a reply, let alone a knock-back. So sucks to be them, I say.

Anyway, Campbelltown! My team now!

I'd love to see this take off, and the Blues visit Sydney and Campbelltown regularly, and firm up support for AFL and Carlton specifically.

Bump

Too good an opportunity to miss.

Can this go into the ideas bank thread?

FYI - Campbelltown is in the heart of Sydney's south west - an area not dissimilar from Blacktown, which Eddie has been trying to Collingwoodify for a while.

This is a gilt-edged opportunity to get into the hearts and minds of thousands of potential members.

Do these potential members really give a toss about real football, or just how they're going to afford their stupidly daft Sydney mortgage?

There is a reasonable level of disaffection with league. If done right, there's plenty of kids that could be converted.

If my memory of my one night in Campbelltown serves correctly, it is a very fertile place to be Collingwoodised

Don't forget, Campbelltown has had "their" league team taken away from them and merged across town (60kms away) with Balmain.....

There are lots of ex-NRL sports fans who won't go back to the RL.

Guys I play in the general area and the junior competitions are building strength at the moment. Also of note Campbelltown are a number of premership left the Sydney competiton to play in the stonger Canberra a competition a few years so their support isnt necessarily limited to the South Western Suburbs.

Geographically it is a very large area and as has a very young population due to its affordability to other Sydney regions. Collingwood has backed Western Suburbs which is located in the Ashfield area but to be honest it doenst have a large junior base. My club has at times been aligned to some extent with them even at one stage fielding a joint under 18's side due to their lack of numbers.

If you look into the region you will find from Bankstown down to Camden is an area that is yet to be tapped into. Please note that my original club is Bankstown until we merged with Liverpool which is futher South West.

Bankstown Juniors are Aligned with St George who in turn are aligned with the Adelaide Crows.

Balmain which is only a stone throw away Wests at Ashfield are aligned with the Fremantle Dockers.

East Coast (Baulkham Hills) are stongly aligned with the West Coast Eagles and are by far the most professionally run club in the competition and also outside the South West region have the great potential for future growth. The only other club in their vicinity is Pennant Hills who are now aligned with Melbourne.

North Shore are alingned with Sheedy's scum bags and the rest I am unsure.

I sent MM and email per KK's suggestion however I was brief as I am not the most eloquant in the written form and provided him the link to the NSW AFL website for reference.

I know first hand that the game up here is expanding at a junior level and now would be a perfect time to cash in.

On a lighter note a local council in our region has built a new AFL ground by accident. Was supposed to be League but hey maybe in the future years than can call it hindsight.

Rumor has it Carlton have flatley rejected any advance from the Campbelltown football club.

Im baffled by this as from my perspective and understanding of Sydney a great opportunity is presenting itself.

Perhaps Steven M can confirm.
