Ok, so I had an idea that was partly inspired by Jarusa's and mjonc's Western Suburbs Supporters Club

My idea is similiar except it's for people who live in and around the inner city to meet up at the Social Club at PP for all interstate matches in 2007 and beyond. The motivation behind it is mainly to get supporters back to the social club and hopefully get a bit of a community happening there again.

I've never put together a supporters group before, so if anyone has any ideas suggestions or you want to be a part of it just let me know.

Also, you don't have to live in the inner city, if you like the idea of going to the Social Club for the interstate games...get on board!!

The Social Club is usually set-up to televise interstate games, whether free-to-air or fox. It can get pretty feral in there, late last season we were down to the hard-core!

Good idea to form a local group. You will need a hook that is more than just watching the games together, which can be done now informally. I would hope the club would be supportive, ie locate a guest speaker pre-match maybe put on some meal options a little more exotic than a pie and a bucket of chips and in return the organisers could perhaps commit to some fundraising targets, run a couple of raffles, get someone to unlock the merchandise shop, drum up some membership sales/upgrades etc.

But for all of you contemplating joining, there will be a bit of a Fitzroy/Northcote clique that you guys from south of the Yarra will find it hard to break into

Great idea slow_mo! I used to go and watch games there until I got pay tv & now prefer to stay at home. I could make a come back however & let me know if you need any help.

The club has a large focus on utilising resources for the Social Club for interstate games. Typically they aim to get past player(s)/injured player(s)/Bullants player(s) to attend and provide speaches and mingle etc etc. Considering the cost to run Foxtel on an annual basis in the Social Club, the more people who go, the better of the Club is.

I had a meeting with one of the operations team from Carlton today about the Western Suburbs Group which I'll post more on once I have finalised a couple of things and given Jarusa an update.

Thanks for that feedback mjonc. It's great to hear that the club have something in mind for these games. It's all the more reason to get a regular group going.
