I'm glad others noticed such bad reporting, no strike that, biased reporting by the Harding! :twisted:

Im glad the Scum are getting so much possitive publicity... It ll make things much funnier when they come crashing back down to reality once the season proper starts...
What about writing how much of a flop Courtney Johns was again, or how Lucas and Lloyd were looked after well by Waite and Setanta...
or how their 'great FB recruit' Mal Michael (who was supposed to free Dustin up to dominate) was cut to shreds by Fev who should've had 7 if he d kicked straight..
or how our ruck division and midfield depth look much improved.

Admittedly, Blues fans also know several things they didn't know before last night. They know Fevola has lost none of his passion for the contest despite his turbulent off-season. They know Jarrad Waite is better than ever and likely to have a great season at centre half-back. And they know that Setanta O'hAilpin has continued his progression.

But there were no revelations. No. 1 draft pick Bryce Gibbs had a relatively quiet introduction to AFL football, picking up seven possessions in his 78 minutes on the ground.

Several of them had the stamp of real quality and there's no doubt he will be a star in years to come - but how unfair would it be to expect him to start hauling the Blues off the bottom immediately?

The word in the build-up to the game was that Essendon* was primed - but it should not be too disappointed even if it was close to full strength on paper and beaten by the wooden-spooner.

I was bemused reading that crap. Considering the hun has reported for weeks that the bummers were flying in pre-season and had done 4-5 practice matches inc the All Stars, the logical conclusion would be that this was a big flop. I used to wonder how Sheedy sold so many memberships. It seems he has quite a few accomplices.

In terms of newspaper press for the Blues, there's always been that sense that the Hun's been more negative than the Age when it comes to Carlton. This was really hi-lited in this morning's papers, where there was a full page photo from our game on the cover of the sports section (all be it an Essendon* mark) and a decent article inside, where as the Hun had sweet F A! What's the go there? I thought the blues reneged on the Age sponsorhip deal or is it just the Hun can't cope with coverage of a slightly later game? I couldnt even see the score from the game anywhere! One thing that might explain it - is there a Sunday arvo edition of the Hun? Rich

I was particularly unimpressed by some of the journos. Emma Quail article I found pathetic http://www.theage.com.au/realfooty/news ... 75219.html quote"The Bombers must continue to re-fuel their new season spirit on the practice match circuit, a lack of accuracy early meaning they could not overtake the Blues." For you there last night, Carlton did not will the game, Essendon* lost it. quote "Neither side stacked itself full of young, untried prospects last night, but the freshness was easy to spot." What would you possibly expect from bottom of the table teams? She then goes on to mention seven players who have played very little senior football without mentioning Murphy, JR, Saddo, Ackland and others who have played very little football for Carlton. When you have so many players who are new to the club over the plst 2-3 years why would you stack it with guys who have only just been drafted?

Essendon's powerbrokers must secretly be considering whether it is wise to enter a season with at least 6 30 year olds on your list, at a time when most other clubs in rebuild mode are promoting younger players.... Michael Christian was talking about Johns "finally living up to the promise he has shown over the past 4 years". And I was wondering whether he was referring to the promise of being able to take the field, because other than a half of footy at half forward last year Johns would have to be the second most overrated player in the competition after Steven King. At least King gets a kick every now and again. Sometimes he even gets a kick of the footy!
