I just want to pay tribute to Barnaby French.

Tonight he didn't get heaps of possies or marks but he was absolutely dominant and tireless for largely the entire game, tag teamed by three quality opponents, ALL of which were kept in at Port in preference for him.

Is there a fitter ruckman in the comp?
In fact there would be very few fitter midfielders in the comp.

Barney I salute you. You have gone from laughing stock to probably the dominant ruckman in the competition, and all with pretty much no support from another true ruckman (no disrespect to Deluca, a talented kid still learning).

I am so proud to have you wear the Navy Blue and I hope you continue to build on what you have achieved so far.

(PS Denis - can we buy some support for him next year?)

Barney is our barometer. Reckon he's the hardest working ruckman in the comp, and doesn't get as much cred as he deserves.

I hope the support you're referring to Ponk is another ruckman, not an elastic device designed to cradle one's privates

Indeed, I think Barney's manhood was evident for all to see tonight!

He won the ruck easily against three opponents. Great effort.

The ironic thing is that in his first season at Carlton Barney got thrashed by Brogan in the ruck.

Turned it around 100%. Barney you @#$%&! legend!!!

Daniher last year called Barnaby an Elma Fudd

French is doing better than Jeff White so far this year

I think he's leading if not he's right up there for most hit outs. He has really turned it around since his 1st season with Carlton.
My mates used to bag him and even mentioning Barnaby they laughed but now the jokes on them!

He was actually starting to play well last season until he hurt his back against the Dogs. Great to see him continuing on this year.

Good call, Parkin use to say that Madden was our barometer & I reckon Barnoby is having a similar affect. His impact at stoppages has improved out of sight & his efforts defensively have been sensational.
Barnaby well done!!!! :D

Synbad,

All post hitting stats from this year can't be compared to previous years post hitting stats. Why you might ask?

The posts are bigger this year.

jbee, i know the posts are taller because of that Milne incident. But are they thicker too??
See if we can work out how far up the post the ball hit for the posters last night ..we can deduce whether they could still be counted as posters prior to 2005 or go with a post 2005 poster.
It would all make for rivetting research .
I cant believe Fev kicked 4 .3 posters. Id love to know how many posters Fev would have kicked if he tried to hit the post .

Funny game this footy....

Sammy Newman rates French very highly, his tap work and bullocking for four quarters is what seperates him from the majority of ruckman. Did brilliantly to win against Primus who I rate as numero uno when fit.

By the way the improvent of French can be shown in the following stats:

Season: Avg Possies - Marks - Tackles - Hitouts

2003: 7.5 - 33 - 27 - 245
2004: 8.6 - 39 - 35 - 271
2005: 12.5 - 14 - 16 - 102 (Four Games)
