The obvious choice . So lets give Lance the opportunity to show he can be a leader on and off the field.

As I said before IMO his days may be numbered as a player by the end of the year if there is rapid improvement in Bower, Hartlett, O'Hailpin ,Waite and Fisher.

Lance IMO must play forward in 07. His days as a defender are over and We must have all 6 defenders with pace and /or height. Many attacks in 06 went to Whitnall in isolation because he is slow and cant jump.

It also concerns me he has been on a modified program pre season with a knee complaint and the obvious bullshit in Ballarat last week. At his age and with a young family he should know better( this is a rather hypercritical statement)

But he is captain so lets give him a chance to see how he goes if the rumour turns out to be true. He does have 200 games experience behind him and has largely very inexperienced team mates around him which has been the main reason he has been given the job.

On a lighter note Sinners will be rapt with the news.

Way to back the new captain of the Blues mate...

Two things to keep in mind - one, we don't exactly have a plethora of players who are capable *or old enough* to step up to captain at this stage... and two, if the players/coaching staff agreed on this and it was ratified by the board - then I'm willing to run with it...

Now - if you can rationalize why appointing Big Red is a 'disgrace', I'd love to hear it...

As far as I'm concerned, good on him - IMO consistency aside I reckon he's a decent leader on the field.

Being made Captain of this club is a great honour.

Congrats Lance on getting the opportunity to do something that almost every single one of us here would kill to do.

Remember that, and make it count.

Well done Lance!

Lets be honest though, at the end of the day whoever the Captain is this season, they're just holding it till one of Murphy or Gibbs steps up. They'll be the ones that lead us to that next flag. And the captaincy isn't such a big deal, the main thing is who is standing in the President and CEO positions. The president has already been sorted, 8) , now we just have to wait on the CEO.

I thought it was obvious why, Sparks.

When was the last time Lance fronted up to pre season in good condition and maintained that throughout the whole pre season?
He's paid 300K+ as a professional athlete and is meant to keep himself in condition that befits a professional athlete.
I haven't seen him in reasonable nick for ages and yet we choose to reward him with one of the highest honours at the club?

While I agree Nick Stevens didn't have the best of seasons last year, but who did? Stevens should have been given the captaincy because at least he knows how to train and maintain himself as a professional athlete. Yes, he came back in shit house form last year, but thats 1 out of about 7 pre seasons that Lance has come back in shit house condition.

I'll accept the fact that he is now the captain of the club, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it or like it one bit.
