Post subject:  3AW Boycott- Sports Tonight

I have not listened to 3AW Sports Tonight for months because of Dwayne Russell. Firstly he has an anti-Carlton bias that extends past that of other supporters. He seems bitter and angry about the Blues. He has delighted in mocking us when things go badly and he has a lot of opurtunity to do so recently. Last night I turned over from SEN in the ad-break and idiot Russell must have done one of his editorials about lance and Heath. I didnt hear it but judging from the talkback he was haveing a go at the club for setting curfews that the players cant keep and that for that reason the team is a rabble etc etc
Some guy "peter from Carlton" rang and starting singing "Da Da Da da' and said "We are back". Gerrad Healy agreed with him and said it will interesting to see what Dick pratt brings to carlton, kudos to Stticks, etc etc. All this positive talk must have killed Dwayne. When the guy asked him if he ever stayed out late when he played, Dwayne was angry and spewing bitterness. "I didnt break team rules, Your team cant control its players. Thats a sign of a rabble etc etc"

Its one thing to hate a team. But to make it your role to spew nothing but negativity is a sign of an unprofessional flower.
Aparently Dwayne played VFL footy. I dont remember him in action at all. Nobody I've asked has but what did Carlton do to him while he was a player?

Anyway I've had enough of this tosser. While he is on the air, i refuse to turn the dial to 693. I will let 3AW know this via email and I think others should too.

Is it still a boycott if I have never listened to it in the past as well as not listening to it in the future?

I agree - since DR started at 3AW the sports programme has gone down the hill and his Carlton bashing is sickening.

I would suggest to email the station and complain. They do not like a lot of unhappy listeners writing to them. This would be far more effective then a couple of hundred Carlton supporters turning off.

He probably spent his whole miserable career hoping to be picked up by a team like us, and ended up horribly bitter and disappointed. I agree he's a complete @#$%&! bag, I truly hate listening to his commentary

Mate with respect I'm suprised it has taken till now for you to realise this dud is just that. The best thing that ever happened to this boorish wanna be jock occured outside the Beaconsfield Hotel a couple of Januarys ago - and the worst thing for AW sports fans. He is another in the mould: minimal skill but wants to play with the past and present greats and be accepted by them.

He sits there night after night next to a true champ and about the most accurate and intelligent thing he manages to sputter out is "we'll take a break". And he says that about a hundred times an hour - I gave AW up a long time ago because of the incessant advertising. He actually has tha gall to refer to himself as a sports journalist, I'm guessing he hasn't ever been to Journalism College.

He is the ultimate boofhead with the same lifelong grudge that all sports people who were never any good have. They secretly know they were shit and this totally undermines any comments or opinions they might have on current day stars. It is killing him. But unfortunately not quickly enough.

I feel the same way.
Sports today use to be a fantastic show prior to Dwayne Russell being on it. I don't listen to it anymore because of him and its a pity because I really enjoy listening to Gerad Healy. Healy is one of the few guys in the footy media that actually do know what is going on with the game.
Hoping that the Russell the knob doesn't go to foxtel.

agree with above post, I have disliked DR for a long, long time - not just in relation to Carlton but most things he craps on about, from predicting that soccer would fizz out after the world cup to saying he loves watching the Victory cos his children like it,

then there is his support of two teams - Dwayne its either Geelong or Port - make up your bloody mind!!! So annoying when he gloats about either team winning.

just wanted to add that he is probably pissed off that we have Pratt now because last week he was enjoying saying that the AFL should take over running Carlton and now he can't push that barrow

The guy comes across as a smarmy smartarse who constantly has to demonstrate his 'superior' wit and insight... not pleasant at all to listen to - and not just where Carlton is concerned.

If I was driving, I'd listen to sports tonight reasonably regularly. But I haven't listened to it at all for probably about six months, due to the fact that I can't stand Dwane Russell's on-air persona.

THe glee in his voice as he gloats over Carlton's present position is something even the knob's in his gob cant hide.

He couldn't wait to get stuck into Carlton - especially after the good news we had last week - which he had obviously no pleasure in delivering.

Unfortunately the Carlton Supporters they allow to air to have a well deserved go at him are not up to the task of taking him to task - but he will get his come uppance one day.

Fire when ready...

I thought what he said at the start of the program was 100% on the money.

We are a joke of a club to have our "leaders" setting such a fine example to the young guys by hanging out late and drinking a couple weeks before the season starts.

We have no desire to succeed if that's how seriously we treat the game, and Pagan coming out and saying "well nobody's perfect" is condoning it.

Those guys involved that are in the leadership group should be expelled from it for starters becasue they are no sort of leader.

Sorry, but you need standards and ours are non-existant.

As I said, i rarely listen to the show because of him. Dont worry, I picked him as a knob very early. I cant for the life of me figure out what 3AW were thinking. It was a between the ad-breaks job. But now I won't even do that. Shame it used to be a decent show and they still get better guests.

The only bright point is that Ian johnson says Idiot's agent rang him incessantly about getting a gig on seven. Ian Johnson's response on air was "Tell your agent we know your number"

If Agro rings him, I'll break the embargo for that 30sec

Dear management

Due to the extreme bias shown by Dwayne Russell towards the Carlton Football Club and the continual negativity he shows to all things associated with the club, I and many others will not listen to your station till he is no longer an employee of yours.
Thanks for helping me make the switch to SEN an easy one by hiring this unprofessional bozo. His general comments on football and sport are inane enough to stop me listening but his bias clinches the deal.

I agree with you Rhys. Healy is a master of the game. I miss Foxtel's 'On the Couch' because of his intelligent Footy commentary, and rationalism.

A few things we (CFC supporters) can do about 'Smelly Mussel':

1. Inluence as many CFC supporters and friends of TC ers to write to foxtel and 3AW about this boycott of 'smelly mussel' on 3AW. Give the address to all concerned. Rule: Must carry addresses at all times or memorise them.

2. We must all act on the decision to boycott 3AW when 'smelly mussel' is on. Rule: Turn off radio station when 'smelly mussel' is on.

3. Start a thread "Sports Tonight in Review" here on TC. Delegate one person per night to listen to the show, and collate all the points/ comments Gerard 'guru' Healy makes on the night. Need several 'bright' volunteers of course. Rule: Must delegate at least 2 reporters/ commentators each night a week in advance. Tell all people about the thread, and it will soon be public knowledge....probably attract a new audience too...will become a phenomena.

4. Laugh at people who continue to listen to 'smelly mussel'. Ridicule them and their intelligence...subtly...so they realise he's not worth listening too. Rule: Don't make it purely a Carlton thing, make it personal...ie he's just pathetic to listen too...He's a Red Neck!!

good stuff.

hes a complete wanker. he has been peddling this ridiculous vendetta against us for quite some time now. seemingly from nowhere he will pull an absurd statement from his ring and just run with it. it wouldnt surprise me at all if he just reads of cards cos a man with that bad a haircut shouldnt be so pleased with himself. nor would he have the supposed 'intellect' he possesses. good to see neither channel 10 or 7 went anywhere near this tool, i think thats a fair reflection of what public opinion is with regards to him....i dont think we should have expected anything less than 9 to keep him on the books, afterall it is the same station that refuses to cut ties with tony greig (i understand the politics involved, he helped packer with WSC) despite pretty much all australians distain for him.

he makes me, like im sure a lot of you, just so incredibly frustrated. and the unfortunent thing is if anyone does apply the blowtorch to him hes just in a position to cut that caller off. but as many of you have said, and as your letter said, hes made the switch to SEN so much easier. thank god they have the footy this year, we can have a total, all encompassing embargo on russell the tool!

You do realise he died a couple of years ago.

Also, I'm pretty sure I read that he is a close childhood friend of Craig Bradley - it could all be just a stir. Don't take it so seriously.
