There's been more than a few unfortunate players who have had to hang up the boots because of injury - Motley, English, Whitehead, Craig Davis (well, he would have done if he listened to the doctors), Noel O'Brien, Jack Hale...the list goes on.

Who are some others that have established themselves as good quality players but have had to quit due to injury?

Sean Charles would have to be the person to have qualified for this the quickest - 10 minutes into his 1st game was it?

Stephen O'Reilly had a back-related hamstring complaint that ended his career a good few weeks before it should have closed.

Trent Hoppner was another less celebrated player whose career was ended with injury.

Andrew Phillips the worst, outside Motley.

Silvagni could have played a couple more years but needed a hip operation that ended his career.

Ang Christou's back injury resulted in him being a shadow of his former self. He became a good twos player after that.

Campo tore a heart muscle that resulted in him ending his career with the Blues and playing at Essendon*.

IIRC Brad Pearce was very limited toward the end because of back injuries (? could have been knee)

Perhaps prematurely needs to be added to the title.

Brian Kekovich - showed great promise as a full-forward in 1968. Sadly a bad back ended his VFL career prematurely.

Richard 'Rocky' Dennis.

I remember watching his first game and he was sensational. Had a good GF in 87. Knee injuries crippled him and he ended up playing for the kangas in the back line.

Perhaps it was God getting the club back for paying him under the table...
