Why did'nt he sign a one year deal when he came Hollywood? Why has he not left already? BTW, did'nt Whitnall have discussions with another club 18 months ago? Your biased argument doesnt stack up I'm afraid. |

Quote: "As a playing group I think we're happy that it's all over and done with now and everyone can get on with it and we can stop hearing about it in the media because, as a player, you concentrate on playing footy so you don’t see that side of it too much," Stevens said.
Bit of an ambigious statement. How can they be happy that it's over when they don't pay that much attention to it in the first place? |

I've got to get a blood test later in the week. At the moment I'm not paying much attention to it, but I'll still be glad when its over!!! |

Bit of an ambigious statement. How can they be happy that it's over when they don't pay that much attention to it in the first place? From that snippet you could say that. But in context of the whole article I read it that he was referring to reading about Carlton's off field issues everytime he opens up a paper, when all he wants to do is focus on the footy. Now that the boardroom election is over, the media may concentrate on what the players do and that is, like us, concentrate on the on field stuff; the footy. |

Fact is Stevens committed to Carlton by signing a long term deal when he came to the club. If he seriously didn't want to be here there is no way he would have agreed to the contract. Fact also is that he is one of a handful of players at the club who can kick a ball and hit targets consistently. I know some criticise him for lack of hardness, but I fail to see how that is justified as I have witnessed many occasions where he has dived into packs to try and extract the ball or hold up play to enable the other players to set up for another attack. At any rate Stevens natural game is as a receiver not an in and under player. FWIW I think he would be an excellent choice as captain and he has the ideal role to help groom someone like Mark Murphy as future captain!! |

Blu vain, whitnall wasnt the one that wanted to leave. The Blues were shopping him around. Whitnall is a Navy Blue man all the way, if he wasnt he would leave. Any team would love to have a player with the ability and footy smarts of this Bid Red Machine! You cant teach what he has! I love Sir Lance a lot |

Look i agree that my love for the Big Red Machine is undying and sometimes clouds my thoughts, BUT i just think that the captaincy should go to a bloke that has been through thick and thin with the club. My choices would be: 1) Whitnall ( because i love him ) 2) Lappin ( because i love him 2nd most ) 3) Fevola ( because he is most likely to stand up for his teammates and bash someone ) |

Look its no secret i dont rate Stevens as highly as others, BUT as long as he wears the navy blue i will love him, not as much as my man Slim Shady Whitnall, but i will love him. Same goes for Pagan, dont like him or his old school coaching, but as long as he is our coach, i will support him |

Lance should retire & get into coaching as soon as possible. ![]() Stevo is primarily a receiver but when the time is required that he has to put his body on the line for his team mates...HE DOES!! I wouldn't mind Stevo being captain but I'd like to see him share it with one of the youngsters ...AW or Simmo.... |

I love Sir Lance a lot Hollywood - if Stevens wanted to leave he would have by now - again fact is he is contracted to the club and he wants to be here. He wants to put his hand up for the captaincy, he has good leadership credentials, is one of our best players, has a good amount of time left in his career etc etc. It shouldnt matter that he has not played for carlton for the whole of his career. His desire, leadership ability, love for the club (as shown by the article in this thread) and experience count for a hell of a lot IMO. Simply put he is an excellent candidate for captain. |
