God i wish this was true.

It would be a big ask and it would be a bold move. It would be the equivallent of appointing Sticks as captain way back when. I know he has not proved himself after 13 games or whatever he has played, but his character can not be faulted at the moment and this young, mature, respectable image will only enhance Cartlon's image and make the club an attractive place to young talent and fresh sponsorships.

However I believe that it would be an enlightened move to the club to make and at the moment this club does not show any signs of enlightenment so I think that it is pure speculation.

the only difference between sticks and murph would be that sticks was 22 or 23 and was all australian for about the previous 3 years i think whereas murphy has only played 12 and a bit games and is only 19, it would be a very bold move but i think it would be a good one.

Yeah Rob Walls on 3AW tonight made a few recommendations saying that AFL should step in and run the club as it did when he was coaching at brisbane and AFL assisted through collo etc he also said:

Give Murph the captaincy, said Voss was 20 when appointed capt and Murph should get it.

Play JFK at CHF all season

Play Gibbs every game

Play Setanta every game

Play Waite at CHB

Saying need to support the playing group and put the faith in the youth

My opinion is to give captaincy to Simpson. Let Murph establish himself as he wont be flying under the radar this year and he needs to consolidate his spot first. The rest I wouldnt disagree with.

Its too early. Let the kid play football for now.

Kernahan was a totally different era and he'd been playing senior football for 5 years.

I hope Murph's 13th game isn't a bad one, because, people are placing unecessary amounts of expectation on the kid. If we are to have any expectations it should be on the 04' draft rather than the 05', Russell, Hartlett and Blackwell are getting to the stage where we need their input in the senior side, this is their 3rd year on the list and I hope they can take the strides that AW took in his 3rd year.

Yeah.

Let's put an even bigger target on his back and kill his career before it even started.

Brads right. Don't even compare the Sticks situation to this. As Brad mentioned it was in a totally different era and Sticks had been playing senior footy for almost 5 years.

It's a different game today.

Murphy is still a baby in the AFL and needs to be treated as such.

I think maybe they misinterpreted what's being said. I think they may have been saying Murphy's Law is in charge of Carlton at the moment.

Walls thinks because it worked for Kernahan it will work for Murphy. This says it all:

Worst suggestion ever... gee the bloke has only played a handful of games, granted he had a great start to his career but let the bloke get a few seasons under the belt before we put that sort of pressure on him.

Must be Whitnall for Captain

Surely, Lance or Stevo will be "care taker" of the captaincy while young Murph does his apprenticeship. No doubting the kids make-up, but I think it’s unfair to burden him with the captaincy while he’s still leaning his trade.

The again ... Simmo … as a wildcard ??? He’s a definite leader. You never know …. Nah…. I still think the club will play it safe with a more senior player!!

- Big ask for the kid but if Murphy thinks he's up for it then i'd give it a shot..............hell i'd give anything a shot at the moment!

100% aggree! This must be done!

Quote:
Play Gibbs every game
Give Gibbs all the opportunity he requires, but don't put so much presure on him!

Quote:
Play Setanta every game
Setanta will play everygame, but it will be because of his own form, not due to the coach just 'Playing' him.

Play Waite at CHB
Yup, i'd love to see this. Just try it for 6 or so games (he'll need time to adjust to the position). But i reckon it's a top idea!

Something i honestly don't think we've done for a while!

Consolidate his spot?

Youd have to be kidding...

The kid deserves a spot...

Murph will be captain in the future, but I don't see the benefit of rushing his appointment right now. He needs some time to settle into the game at AFL level and enjoy his footy. Doesn't need the pressure of lifting the greatest team in history out of its lowest point in history.

Comparison to Sticks are null and void. Sticks was much older, had much more experience at the top level, was an All-Australian, etc, etc before he was appointed. Plus he joined a team full of mature age stars - not young newbies.

It should and will be Lance. He deserves it. Or even Stevens and Lance as co-captains. Give the boys two years at the helm and then Murph can take over with Simmo as vice captain.

No doubt about it...

Lance does deserve it...

I just dont think he fits the mould of what a captain should be...

My vote goes to stevens...

Will Murph have time for the captain's gig if he's also the CEO and President? Or would that be too much pressure on him?
