Post subject:  Some interesting stats after 3 rounds- Blues vs Port

After 3 rounds Port has had half the scoring opportunities (shot) to our Blues
Carlton 88 shots (50% goals) Port 42 shots (62% goals)

It is bad conversion that cost us in all 3 games...Our scoring opportunities and our inside 50s are in the top 4 (thanks to Barnaby- top 3 in hit outs, Stevens and Kouta top 7 in clearances, Kouta still no.1).
We missed many goals and it cost us big time...and really a lot of misses were gettable goals...Hopefully the tide will turn. If you look at scoring shots below you can see we easily could have won all 3 games.

Rnd 1: Carlton 25 Kangaroos 25
Rnd 2: Carlton 30 Essendon* 21 (3/4 time C:20 E:18 )
Rnd 3: Carlton 28 Collingwood 28

i wouldnt say its our misses as we are probably kicking about AFL averages, its more the accuracy with which teams have kicked against us that have done us in.

17.4 against the buumers
15.1 against the filth in the second half

change both of them to a more reasonable

12.9 against the buumers and we win 29 points
10.6 against the filth and we win by 4 points

Hey Prez, everytime I mentioned this as a factor I got the "Tumbleweed" response - hope you have better luck.

Great stats Paganbro, good to see you, keep 'em coming.

If Fevola makes 4 tackles this week he goes up to 16 for the year. In 20 games in 2004 Fev only laid 16 tackles.

Does this indicate how crowded our forward line has been? Or is Fev chasing more than last year?

Bit of both I reckon, Jar.

Yeh true, and maybe all it means is he has made 12 tackles so far.

Port's shots have come against Freo at Subi, Brisbane at home and Crows at home (no home advantage). Ours have all come from games at the dome or the G against some of the competition's real Gumbies...

So the statistics are interesting but nonetheless limited in their poignancy :)

I do agree though that if more "normal" kicking for goal had come against other teams we would be in a much better position.

i get a few tumbleweeds myself

i dont think we are travelling anywhere near as bad as people think.

we havnet played anywhere near our best football and its only been the way above average accuracy of our opponents for us not being 2-1 if not 3-0.

I mean really when sav starts taking screamers and kicking goals from the boundary line outside 50 you know you dont have much chance.

If Port Adelaide kick 8 goals 21 and still kill us then we will know we are in trouble.

The Prez and AGRO been pushing 'the opposition have kicked accurately' wagon all week, to no avail...tend to agree with you, but someone posed the question about whether this is because we've failed to puish them out of the corridor.

If they're kicking 17.4 and 15.1 predominately from inside 40 and in the corridor then its our fault.

They have kicked some flukey goals...interested on where the rest have come from though

All I am saying is that in our first 3 games this season our opponents have kicked at around 70% accuracy - which is about 10% higher than the AFL average - and the tin arse quota has been very high and that the enigmatic forwards like Sav Rocca, Scott Lucas and Chris Tarrant chose to be non-enigmatic against us. Eeee awwwww, Eeeeee awwww.

Agree totally Prez.

We're still the youngest side in the comp, but not the worst side in the comp.

We have the biggest scope for improvement, but with that will come the disappointment we all suffered last week.

Take the good with the bad, but don't give up the faith people. We're still on the right track.

GO BLUES!!

I think that many got a bit carried away with our 2005 prospects after the wizzer cup win.

Having said that there is merit to the argument that we arent as bad as others like to make out. In our 2 losses, we were beaten, but only by 20 points in games that we could have won.

In many ways our team and our list is only partially built. Foundations have been laid and framework is going up, but we are nowhere near 'lock up' stage yet.

We have showed a flash of early promise, but are still very much a Work in Progress.
