No it's not good news. Grant is one of life's gentleman and contrary to popular belief from some people on this board, he was very good at his job.

The issues relating to some of the player contracts had nothing to do with him. Many times he was hamstrung by outside issues beyond his control.

He is very well liked within the football department and worked long hours to keep things on track.

It will be sad to see him go.

And that's why I was shocked to see Mikkey's reaction to this news.

Caroline Wilson praised Williams for his work in trade week for keeping Russell and Thornton at Carlton .

Do we have a replacement already lined up?

Although it may have appeared otherwise there have been some very competent people down at Carlton in the admistration. Ian Coutts would be another example. It's sad to see one of them go.

100 percent correct. The issues relating to player contracts can be blamed on two people, Graham Smorgon and Michael Malouf. One is now gone, the latter needs to go very soon!. We can't leave our young players uncontracted again this year. Malouf should not have us lose any of our young players, it's bad enough already that he prevented us from getting Goddard....

Good luck to him: he probably won't be quite so busy to earn his wage. Nor have so many hassles actually doing his job.
Pity about the timing, too. A few months ago and we could have maybe attracted Ken Sheldon into the job.
It is an area where we NEED someone who can get the job done WITHOUT the public relations nightmare that appeared back in October. [But then, if we can flick some of these dill managers and get some realism going instead of TV headlines, then things may go more smoothly for everyone.]

Ok Williams is a nice bloke.. but he is not a football bloke..
shouldnt be football manager.. he should be in charge of football admin .. for the coach and footy dept manager..
he is more an IT person than a frontline football man.

Wrong man for the job but was valuable elsewhere at the club.

We dont look at tecnology cos we dont get it.

Teddy Hopkins has sent the club packages of the kinds of things he can offer.. not expensive but we have not even bothered to look at them because we have dinosaurs in the footy dept.. Pagan and Frank 'Sticks' spencer..

They dont get it!!!

Most of the other clubs do... but not us...

Grant would have been valuable in that kind of role...

I think the most notable opinion on Williams is Caz, as he has a genuine involvement with the club. So it seems bad to lose good people. Let's hope we get a good replacement. And I doubt he was pushed, he has another job to go to. I don't think he did that interview after the Pratt appointment!
