Did anyone else hear him say that he wanted to "get the club back from the AFL" or words to the effect? Perhaps he let slip more than he was suppossed to. Also the AGM date was deferred until the accounts are complete. More stalling tactics? I guess it gives a rival ticket more time to organise as well. |

If he did say it, why did he hand it to them in the first place? |

He is trying to use populist terms... but does he realise its cos of him??? With such a wealth of knowledge and hindsight in your favour I just can't understand why you're not on the board. ![]() |

He is trying to use populist terms... but does he realise its cos of him??? While I don't like GS I feel compelled to defend him from stupid statements like above. Yep it's because of GS that the club owes so much money and had to borrow from the AFL, in the few months that he has been president he has depleted our cash reserves and made us broke. the previous 5 years had nothing to do with this at all. |

According to Mathieson the club is better off financially than it was 4 years ago. Collo resisted running to the AFL to borrow money early days because he knew what the ramifications were yet Smorgon takes the easy option and borrows the cash as soon as he gets in. How is it that we are supposedly better off yet we had to beg off the AFL just to pay our bills when they were due? Collo did the hard yards yet Smorgon shafted him and took the soft option straight away. Perhaps if the board functioned as a board instead of playing power games, we could actually achieve something. Defend away. |

I think it came off as an off-the-cuff remark, and I'm sure Synbad is fully capable of defending himself if he was offended... To be honest, the only thing we can definitely establish as truth is the fact that we are *in some way* under the control of the AFL. In receiving financial help from them recently we have assumed some level of control to them - though what level I am not sure *as I am, to quote the word of the moment, a gumby* ![]() Either way, it's tripe - and I'm sick of this tool... Smorgo, you're off my Christmas card list... ![]() ![]() |

Its because of GS that we have NO BUSINESS PLAN.... GS is our president he has the people in place to establish a BUSINESS PLAN... as a matter of fact we may be arguably better off than we were four years ago but it doesnt feel like it... because we wernt having our bills paid by the AFL 4 years ago... the club has more self esteem four years ago... and 2 years ago we were at around 5 million debt.. now were 8 million and its blowing out!!! and you know why its blowing out kingkerna??... its blowing out because it costs more money to run a club today than it did 10 years ago or 3 years ago...and for 4 years we have been unwilling to create a business.. thats right that word BUSINESS... because we have no BUSINESS PLAN.. sound familiar???... So while we have been busy cutting costs (even though we are telling everyone full compliment of sponsors.. and more members than most other Victorian teams) ... we are failing to generate money... because we have NO BUSINESS PLAN.. we need to create a BUSINESS... because the days of the VFL are over.. and the AFL is now a BUSINESS...but because were amaterish and have NO BUSINESS PLAN or BUSIESS were falling further and further behind... So whos fault is us not having a BUSINESS PLAN??... mine or the President and his CEO that he sticks by??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm??????? So defend him all you want... you just dont understand the ramifications of modern day football and BUSINESS PLANS.... Which is a reflection on you not me.... ![]() |

surely the point is all this is that deciding to use picks to draft kids is great (in an obvious, 'look out there's a brick wall ahead' kind of way) but the club needs to expand itself into areas that generate cash - can someone name me 1 area (begging to the AFL not included) that the current board has shown either a willingness and aptitude or a desire to do this - let alone actually accomplish it? |

There has been nothing cutting edge about the club since Smorgon took over. He is umimaginative (unless its to save his own skin then he becomes very imaginative)... he is uninspiring... weve seen him beg on the footy show during the Tasmanian Mining Disaster.. we have seen him do backflips... we have seen him lose control of the club... we have seen him lose control of the board.. and we have seen the debt spiral out of control in the year hes taken office... Oh but he did hire a public relations company to spin im an image... the budget to pay them must have evaporated ... there is nothing redeeming about the guy... hes a joke!! Just @#$%&! off!!!.. take your mates with you and lets call an election all seats on the board up for grabs!!! Then they can elect a president from that... |
