Carrazzo is our heartbreak kid.
He breaks our hearts everytime the ball hits his boot.
Everything else he's a real gem at. One of the best young movers in the game, I reckon. His ability to make room, and his clean hands are supoib.
He's the model of a good "small". Quick, fit, strong, good height for a mid, super-competitive, strong at the ball, desperate to play at the top level, desperate to represent Carlton..........
but.........
The closest thing to precedent for Carrazzo is Ben Johnson (Collingwood). Very determined player who was good at every level besides his kicking, which sucked. Overtime, Malthouse had faith in him and now he's one of their prime movers who's kicking, though still not in the Stuart Dew bracket, is acceptible for AFL level.
Carrazzo will become a better kick with experience. He'll never drain them fom 65 out on the run from the boundary, but he will learn to hit targets, and pick out the right targets.
For now we have a few options with him
1) We drop him. Get him to iron out his problems in the 2s, and hope.
2) We find a spot for him in the team where his kicking is less of an issue.
I like the 2nd option. It'll keep him developing his overal game in the firsts, and will also force him to work out his kicking at the "proper pace" of the game.
But where do we stick him?
I believe the solution may be on-the-ball and on-a-man. If he's around stoppages, his hands, strength and movement will play a big part, and his kicks will be quicker, perhaps less precise by their nature (ie, less time to think about each disposal). Plus, he has the defensive nous, pace and fitness to seemingly go with anyone.
I wonder if he should get the gig as our number 1 defensive mid. McGrath is a more skillful bloke who could be moved back where his kicking could be more useful.
Bannister is handy, but around the ball he doesn't have the ability Carrazzo has.
I seriously think this is the go. Move Carrazzo onto a man. Their best ballwinner. Francou, or Kane Cornes, or..... someone in and under.
Move Carrazzo out of defence, and move him into the kitchen. Win for Andrew... win for the team.
Also, ever notice how Carrazzo, like Camporeale, has a non-Italian first name? Why not Adriano? What's the Italian "Andrew"?
