I want to have it on the record that I apologise to Bret Thornton for my critical comments earlier this week. Whilst I stand by my much of what I wrote I think I was a bit harsh which was due to the emotion of potentially losing our best defender at a time when the club is on its knees.

I would like to welcome Bret back to the club (although technically he never left) and wish him all the best for the next 3 years. I look forward to watching his development as a player.

As soon as you pull on our beloved navy blue past transgressions are forgotten.

well said. it can get emotional well someone leaves the club and as you said with someone like bret who is important to us those emotions can run very high.

I make no apology to those that don't want to be at the club. Now that TBird has stayed, we move forward and hope he can learn from the Wayne Campbell experience.

I will do the same to the next player from our club that we rate that attempts a similar thing. Yes, they are looking after their interests, but what about the club's? It's not like money was an issue!!!!

If you think money was the issue here you are dreaming there have been many situations when money is the issue or the player not being happy but i hold the club responsible for the shambles of having these players wanting out

if the club was on the bottom of the ladder but had a stable united board with a plan and properly looked after the players we wouldnt have been put in a position where we loose our best back and a potential up and coming player in Russell.

Wangers if this club is still runing in the state it ended off in 2006 we will have bigger worries of players wanting out than just T-bird and Russell...

But hopefully we will have a more stable and united Blues in 2007 and will be making good progress :)

Anyway i dont have any negatives to either Russell or T-bird and i happy the T-Bird is back on board and i know he hasnt lost the players support and well hopefully Russell follows in T-birds path

I too wish to apologise to all the Felchers out there... it was horrible of me (and all of us) to unfairly taint your bedroom activities with the slime of Chris Pelchin.

Long may you felch long after Chris Pelchin is selling used cars in Adelaide.

well said Headcutter

i would think a number of LOUD posters should apologise to the club as well....many ridiculed it for it's lack of intent to get something for the disgruntled players.

have we got the right administration in place? that's not the point, on this one they performed o.k

the whole experience should be a lesson.

Question: media reports throughout the last week or so say Thornton had a "desire" to leave Carlton and go to Hawthorn.

So has he only re-signed because he realised the Hawks didn't value him as much as he thought they did? Or was he just trying to hold the club to ransom for more money, or a Vice Captaincy maybe. ???

hopefully you idiots that had a go at bret will be eating your words for years to come, it's ridiculous how quickly parts of this board, and how i assume therefore parts of this clubs supporter base turn on players,

campo,
hamill,
russell,
thornton,

grow up.

Pretty crowded used car market in Adelaide - especially up Main Road:

- Graham Cornes Used Cars
- Mark Riccuto Used Cars

and a few others I cant remember right now - "The Felchen" will find it hard market to crack.

I would like to apologise to the club, on behalf of Thornton, for the anxiety, and lost opportunity his actions and his manager's plot has caused the club.

It could have been better handled, by simply communicating with the club directly and with some flexibility; as he is no stranger to them.

In addition, the fruitless tactic was tragic for the club in that the club was put in an ambivalent position as to its position with draft picks and the PSD. The club did not trade, nor could it in such circumstances, and as a result, the club has not been able to focus on attracting the likes of Polak through the PSD.

At the very least, a good lesson has been learned by player and club, and will be of benefit to the club in the future. Players and their managers in the future must account for all the costs and probabilities before such a ploy is considered again by any player moving forward. As for the club, it is a wake up call; open, honest and considerate communication with its players is paramount, if we are to encourage players to play for the jumper, let alone securing our young guns are contracted to the club.

Congratulations to the club, for sticking to their guns. I was prepared to gain nothing for Thornton (other than pick 6) and send a strong message to the players who are on the Carlton list.

We have secured our prized 1, 17, 19, 35 and 51 draft picks. These picks can only make the club stronger, and a better club to be at for the likes of Thornton.

Now, lets all get on with the job to take this proud club back where it belongs at the top of the table.

Give him away you mean?

What if Hawthorn had only offered a 4th round pick? Would you still trade him then?

Wouldn't feel too bad HC. Not sure exactly what you said about Bret but he shouldn't be all that proud of nicking off to Fiji while his manager put the club through hoops. Good on the club for winning this and to Bret for finally coming to his senses. Having said this we need to make the environment one that players don't want to leave, or if they do leave they know they are giving up a lot more than money. Also need to get negotiations over before bastards like Pelchen get into our players.

Also good work Bondi, like your apology.

Now lets get down to undermining the Hawks, don't have to get anyone just make it really hard for them to sign their young stars and get all the clubs circling.

In the end success, but particularly strong leadership and culture will keep players at a club. Wish we had a Johnny Brown down there. Hopefully the young players can fill this role soon.

TBird will have the spotlight on him moving forward. Was quite prepared to take pick 6 only and anything else from the Hawks would not have satisfied.
