Congrats to CFC for their stance with Thornton & Russell. It's about time we as a club showed some balls. This is the sort of stuff we can build on.

Hawthorn has to get into a meaningless brawl to draw their line.

Oh, and don't worry, Thornton & Russell will be in Navy Blue next year. And if anyone else was thinking of doing same next year, a strong signal has been sent by the club.

I support the decisions on Thornton and Russell but I don't think it should be seen as a warning to other Carlton players. We should ensure they all WANT to play for the club.

Im sure they all do want to play for carlton.

I hear all the time on tc at the moment that carlton has the worst list. I strongly disagree and believe the players are very very young and have their best football ahead of them. When their football mature's with the young list we have, this group will unite and bring us back to we're we should be, and the players will be proud and passionate navy blues.
When you look at the senior players on the list, scotland, whitnall, and fevola all played decent seasons. With the exception of stevo who had a very average season which may have been because of this back injury, there is alot to be excited about as a carlton supporter.
We need to sign T-bird and Jordo asap, get the crap dealt with as for as coaching staff, board decisions and create a healthy football club again.

I'd still like to know how much "convincing" the player managers do to when we hear stories of players wanting out.

Why did Hawthorn have a player that wanted out?
Why did Freo have 2 that wanted out?
Why did West Coast have a player that wanted out?

The manager works for the player, got to remember that. The manager will be ruthless and play hardball but the bottom line is he is doing what the player wants.

I wonder about this as well.

The more they can drive the players price up, the bigger their cut.

I think you spell Naive with a captial N in this instance Gameboy.

We are a talking about young men with limited life experience. Why do you think they have Managers? It is for the guidance and knowledge of the process. Surely you don't think if a player manager starts getting in their ear about fame and fortune the kids won't be swayed.

I think it would be safe to say I would be a wealthy man if I got a $ every time a young player said to his mananger....'What do you think'?

Wanted a longer contract than Hawthorn were prepared to give him. Similar reason to why Thornton wanted to go to Hawthorn as they were offering him more money and a longer contract.

Lack of opportunities for all the others.

Interesting read Caz.

I think it shows the club did the right thing and that Hawthorn are a bunch of PR spin doctors and politicians as befitting their leader, that are intent on making themselves look good while rubbishing others.

Thankfully Carlton and Sydney showed them up for the prats they are.

All that remains to be done is resign Thornton and to a lesser extent Russell and it'll be a job well done.

Good find Caz. I think it's a very good read, just goes to show how much Hawthorn are trying to pull the wool over everyones eyes. Turds!

I'm glad we stood firm.

Easily the best article about trade week for some time.

Greg Baum wrote a reasonable one this morning but then put in this line:

Quote:
The Blues doubtlessly thought they were making a statement. But it is impossible to think that Thornton can ever play good football for them again.

Must be his first trade week...

OK his manager was forcing him to go to Hawthorn.

The key thing to remember is that there were no quotes used in any article in this week or the one preceding it from Bret himself.. direct quotes from things he actually said.

I think, given that, its a bit rich to assume that he was pulling all the media strings. I assume most of it was posturing and spin from Captain Inequity Chris Pelchin and Mr In-over-my-head McConville.
