Post subject:  What advice for Sticks

Given the goings on over the recent week, and then on reflection the past few years, what advice would you give one of our greats :

Sticks

I think he needs too make a tough call soon, as I would honestly hate for his reputation too get tarnished (if it ever could). He is in a tough role, but a role that needs too be filled none the less, and a role that he has been doing tirelessly.

Do people believe he should jump off the board, keep doing what he is currently doing etc etc.

Is he doing this role for himself or because he feels there is no one else?

Resign from the board and be remembered/revered as a Carlton great, not someone who didn't know when to go and leave it to new blood.

Quietly help to organise a new ticket of quality people.

Then quit the board once confident there'll be a challenge, and publicly support the challengers, but don't stand yourself.

the folks still love sticks, and half of them would vote for satan if sticks told them to.

right now - that's the most positive thing he could do for the club.

then in a year or so, come back and help Josh Kennedy and the boys in some one-on-one sessions from one of the best CHF's to ever play the game.

then sit back and enjoy our rise up the ladder.

Some accountability wouldn't go astray. He is not being made to be accountable for either of his roles...

The members love him blindly, and refuse to question his position on the Board. Quite simply, when the Elliott regime was ousted, and Kernahan continued to back Elliott right till the bitter end, he should have done the honourable thing then and resigned. The fact that the Members didn't vote him out shows an unhealthy 'blind love/faith' in him, regardless of his performance.

He is not accountable in his role on the match committee because the match committee is answerable to the Board. Therefore, Kernahan is answerable to himself.

It is an unhealthy situation, and more and more it can be seen that anything can happen at Carlton, AS LONG AS Kernahan isn't pushed out. The power borokers know this, no one will dare challenge a group that includes Kernahan without including Kernahan on their own ticket.

And yet, IMHO, I haven't seen any evidence that he has been successful in his roles, yet there have been a number of isntances where he seems to have been involved in decisions that have backfired (sacking Brittain for instance...remember...a week before Brittain was sacked, Kernahan blasted the media for suggesting it would happen, then went and did it, and all the while, making it look like he is the god guy, and refusing to cop ANY criticism of himself).

I have also made my thoughts known on his performance at the EGM, when Elliott was forced to spill the Board, on two previous posts.

Not only should Sticks do that, if he's been on the piss, stay away from the microphone. His speech was embarrassing.

I written speeches for dimwitted CEOs who then proceed to get 'lectern happy' and shoot off without referring to the written speech. Most manage to @#$%&! it up every time. Few people are good a formulating and articulating ideas and speeches off the cuff. Sticks proved this again. Pure crap and he really needs to begin to learn to understand his strengths and weaknesses.

Amazing how the sheep continually bleat and change their mind.

One minute Pagan has to go BECAUSE STICKS SAID SO.

Now they bleat that STICKS HAS TO GO.

The sheep also bleat how they want Fraser Brown to create a ticket, someone who wanted Pagan gone ON STICKS' recommendation.

Thank god sanity prevailed and we didn't sack Pagan.

And you're the biggest sheep of the lot.

I'm not surprised you post fairly infrequently, it must be hard posting with one hand constantly on it.

What exactly would his strengths be then, WBY? Since 1998, that is.....

Not sure Moshe. I'd like to have the opportunity to assist him in finding them. Deep down I believe he has Carlton's interests at heart but needs some tactical direction and most importantly, people on the board to set a decent agenda and direction.

What do you think?
