Post subject: | Fev on Footy Show |
Fev was on the footy show last night and made the following comments: - very happy Pagan is staying - performances haven't been the fault of the coach or the players, we were crucified by being excluded from the draft - future is looking very promising with us having some of the best young talent in the country (named Murphy, Kennedy, Simpson, Walker) - wants Michael Gardiner in the PSD - thinks Pagan can turn him around and he has much left to offer as a footballer - said that all the stuff in the media and board meetings is "shit" and the footy club needed to move forward from it - also said he "wasn't in the best frame of mind" when he got off the plane and heard about the possibility of Pagan being sacked and that Geelong is a "rabble" Nice segment for the Fev - once again, the thing that shone through was his enthusiasm about the future of the club and his strong belief that we are going places soon! |

I gave him 10 out of 10...I thought his Carlton comments were great...he did his chances for the Vice-Captaincy * no harm at all. * This is what he really wants - he's just putting his hand up as captain so that he can get the VC job. |

Also pleaded for the recent famous names to get down and support the club and particularly the kids - Bradley, williams etc. Gardiner? mein gott. |

Bless him for remaining upbeat, but I kinda think he's towing the company line there... Just to be a conspiracy theorist... Maybe Pagan had a word with him. "Fev, talk down the controversy for me. And talk up Gardiner..." "Why Gardiner? He's a flower!" "Because I want him, and people will be willing to accept my mad scheme if you give it tacit approval." "Tacit, Den?" "Listen, son, it'll do your Captaincy chances no harm..." Anyways... I do hope he didn't call Geelong a rabble. Something about Black Kettles who call people names... |

I wouldnt have allowed him to go on...I like Fev but I didnt think he handled it that well ..probably was allowed to go on to spruke the club in a positive way but I still think he needs some refining with his media work.... |

Yeah sorry, that was his other point that I forgot to mention. Asked some Carlton guys - SOS, Ratts and Braddles - if they were listening to come down to the club because having them around would help the players immeasurably - both in terms of what they could offer from a footballing perspective, and also to help restore the Carlton mentality |

The dig at Geelong about being a 'rabble' was very much in jest and self deprecating. |

he spoke from the heart was the way I saw it. And his comments about ex players is really spot on. The club is at its lowest ebb. We need HELP from our past greats, not opinions. |

Phew. Like his call-to-arms for ex-Carlton champs. |

Harsh call Elwood - i think he has really come on as a media performer and felt he was heartfelt last night. A great ambassador at the Club and a welcome view from ourplayers. |

Quote: performances haven't been the fault of the coach or the players, we were crucified by being excluded from the draft
He didn't really say that did he? How long can we roll out that excuse?? Just embarassing! Whose fault is it then?? |

What we didn't see was Denis "Spoons" Pagan hiding in the stage lighting above, pulling the marionette strings. |

If the following is true "that we need to draft good players" then it follows that, "if we are playing poorly", then: 1) Some of the current players are poor 2) Something else If it's not the players, it's the coach. If it's not the coach, it's the players. According to Fev's logic, you can't have both. ![]() The real answer is a mixture of both. We have some quite average players and we also have a mediocre coach. Sorry Fev, but please don't say you're just saying what Denis has said for the last 4 years and you're saying it only because you want the vice-captaincy or captaincy? Or are you? ![]() |

Fev would not necessarily speak on behalf of the players when it comes to Pagan though. Right from day one Pagan was a fan of Fev so Fev will always back him. I haven't heard one other player (2007 list) come out and support him. I tend to think that Brown is right and the majority of the players are not happy. I wonder if Kouta signed up for next year thinking/knowing DP was going to be shown the door. |

A bit too much heartfelt......he is a nice bloke who appreciates what Denis has done for him and fair enough but I dont think Fev sees the big picture and his jibe about getting SOS,Ratten, Bradley etc back to the club had a bit more in it than heartfelt......he knows why they are not back at the club...I just think he is too much aligned to Denis and needs to be careful what he says and careful he isnt seen as the Pagan PR man... Blaming the loss of draft picks etc for our bad run was a tad too much Denis speak...and its not the players or the coach?..... |

Fair enough.. I just dont expect footballers to be aware of the bigger picture. |

I think if you are going to be capatin material you might want have some understanding of the big picture and be seen as more neutral is probably what I am getting at.....I think Nathan Buckley for example may have handled it differently and kept the comment minimal... |

Or are you? ![]() His point being that we haven't had the cattle on the park to be successful because of the draft sanctions - said that we had no choice but to pick up recycled players who were no better than "second-tier" players (though refused to name them when prompted by Sam). I realise that we have been using that excuse for a while, but its true - add a couple more talented youngsters into that side and we are nowhere near as bad. Anyway, what do you expect him to say? We are crap, the coach is crap - come buy a membership! |
