The one bit of good news this week is that Trout is gone. But I read that the fitness coach is gone too. Anyone know why. Seems to me that fitness has not been the problem and injury "rate" has ben reasonable. Anyone has any info? Is it just because he was brought along by Denis?

cos...we want heads dammit!!!
Looke ven though he is a great guy and very good at what he does.. the days of flogging players on the track are over... its more scientific...

i dont know whether thATs a real reason or not... but pagan liked him so he had to go... i think thats how it goes now that the board support denis for the next 2 years....

I heard he was sacked for getting Lance matchfit  :-D

I heard it was because he was no longer eligible for the NRS.

Hopefully it's for the right reasons, such as he's relatively old school, like all Pagan's cronies, and we need to adopt a more modern approach to everything in the coaching department.

My understanding from someone who used to play footy with a couple of Pagan's long term helpers is that they are all in the same mould. Needless to say, being a Blues supporter, he is and has been dead keen on getting the ones he knows out of our Club, and bringing in some modern thinking people with tactical and communications ability.

Making changes for the sake of "doing something"

These people are who and what Pagan requires them to be.
Sacking them is removing the personnel, not the role within the organisation.

Does the board think Trout is a pig to the players without Denis' knowledge?
Elshaugh may be a great bloke off the field but his role within the organisation belongs in the 80s.
That is the structure Pagan employs, humiliation and brow beating.

Fraser Brown said the place is "dispirited and soulless". I couldnt have put it better.

He's a deckchair.

Why sack the ship's captain when you can just rearrange the furniture?

he was on SEN this morning, the three stooges interviewing him just sucked up to him without asking the hard questions (surprise, surprise).
My issue with him is that I believe he is meant to be a strenght and conditioning coach - I simply don't think that we are strong enough - obviously the young ones need time but some older players just can't tackle - I put this down to lack of strength - not technique deficiencies.

Could be strength through angles of the shoulder, elbow and wrists joints yes.

Could also be agility in the legs, not being able to launch the tackle from a decent angle in regards to the ball carrier.

I mean I've seen Waite manage to lose a fair few tackles because he's been shuffled sideways and can't get a real grip, but other times I've seen him absolutely cream someone.

It's probably different in each circumstance. That's what I'm talking about with sports scientists and analysts, break it down biomechanically about what's going on, inform the strength and conditioning coach if it's a regular issue and discuss as a group ways of improving upon this.

ie. Sports scientist says "Jarrad seems to have an issue with lining himself up for the tackle. I'll get him into a few simulation exercises that help develop his understanding of what to do in the situation. What have you got?" *Motions to the fitness coach*

Fitness coach: "Well we can look at ways of increasing Jarrad's agililty through the hips, knees and ankles through strengthening exercises along the angle of movement for the joints as well as some drills to develop a technique you can worth with in those simulation exercises."

Back and forth communication.

It's tackling jim, not constructing a cybernetic organism from scratch.

So you want modern techniques broken down into 80s jargon then??

"Yeah he can't stick a @#$%&! tackle, we saw it on tape."

"Right, I'll get him on these @#$%&! weights and fix the prick up."

"I'll get him working on a bag to flower this problem too."

Isn't that what we're supposedly walking away from?

I hope this isn't what Synners is looking for, because he can just sit at home with some tapes and live the 80s in his head.

Welcome to the future.

This is how you merge sport with science now. Is there something wrong with having simulation exercises as opposed to pissy drills that attempt to do the same thing?

Is it wrong to break down each player and assess where they need to improve so that everyone is on a fairly even keel for group training?

Strengthening a muscle along all regular angles of a joint is hardly a new principle in exercise. You increase the time you take for each rep, rather than just ripping through it. If a player is just ripping through some exercises, that will just increase his strength in the areas that are doing all the work, rather than increasing all areas.

What the hell do you guys do in a gym? Rip through it to look big?

Not degenerate my body for when I'm 50+ :D

Building your body to be a fine-tuned machine takes time and patience.

Looking big does not.
