I have been thinking about the possibility of dual captaincy in 2007 for the Carlton Football Club... Right now there is debate over who should be captain and it got me thinking about on field leadership at the club - or lack of. I like the idea of St. Kilda creating leaders but they only last for 12 months and are then switched which I think does nothing long term for the player - and adversely the club.

So I would like the idea for dual captaincy explored by the club. The idea of say a player forward and a midfielder, or backman could be quite good as there would be two generals directing traffic at opposite ends, two leaders and most importantly two players for for the team to look to for inspiration.

I like the idea of a say Whitnall and Simpson for example. An older statesman and a new and inspiring young buck. Two onfield players working together to build this team in the roughest time the club has experienced yet.

Teamwork always gets results and with two leaders this may well assist a path to recovery. What do you guys think? Who are your two options if you had to choose? Get debating.

Normally I would say no because it sounds abit weirdo-schmaegar.

But given where we are I think it makes a lot of sense. Each of our potential Captain options has an issue or a potential issue. I think Whitnall is the favourite to get it but maybe I spend too much time reading here he may regress to being a big porker. Stevens better concentrate on getting back to 2004 form and Fev, do we risk his huge year. I think also a younger player would be good to set the scene for other younger players.

Lets say Whitnall, Fevola and Simpson as co-captains.

Well we have dual media fiascos just to announce we don't know what we're doing, why not have dual captains as well?

That should drive the message home to the remaining uninformed few that our club can't make a decision about anything.

I'd like to see 2 Cpts.
But the overriding cpt be the older one and the younger one needs to understand that.

I rekon Fevola and Murphy!

So I can recognise my own posts quickly without having to read the username.

Seriously why the need for multiple captains when you have the 3 positions I mentioned above plus a leadership group?

Fevola and Whitnall dual captaincy at carlton.
I think it would even make Fevola play better.

What I don't get with StKilda is they say they are rotating the captaincy to see how they each go as leaders but they never keep one. They should have left it with Lenny Hayes who was the only one to relish in the role.

My idea of two Captains is simple. One senior player and one Junior. Whitnall and Simmo. When Whitnall eventually retires, or steps down from Captaincy CFC could then promote a Murphy or Walker aged / type player. Two onfield generals working together to get the team backu up is like the old saying of 'two minds are better than one'.

The players need to be like minded for it to work and happy to plan together off field. It has its merits and worth consideration.

I'm thinking this issue might not be foremost on the minds of the club at the moment.

Then again, sadly enough it probably is... :?
