Right, so Pagan it is, with Silvagni and (most likely) a couple of new blokes by his side. Good or bad, that's the way it is, let's accept it and put staffing and board-related issues aside for a moment (well, sort of). So, what's the plan for 2007? What's the agenda we set for our refreshed football department? Youth will be the obvious answer to any question, no doubt, and youth development needs to be taken seriously and given more than mere lip service. So the kids will be picked, and Denis will swallow a bit of pride and give them more game time than he thinks is best for them (and the team). The supporters are sold the youth policy during the pre-season and rejoice, for good times are ahead, Murph and the other young fellas will lead us to the promised land. All is well for a few rounds; some competitive losses and maybe even a well-fought win. Then comes the first hiding, the sort of blow-out that inevitably occurs with a young side as they learn the ropes. Then another. Perhaps even another. How much of this are we prepared to accept in the name of development? Is our agenda to play and develop the kids at all costs, bugger the scoreboard? Will all involved accept this happily, aware of the big picture and eventual benefits, or are we going to threaten the coach? Throw out the board? Need someone, anyone, be a scapegoat? Will we accept that losses will be a side effect of the development process, provided we're seeing tangible improvements, growth and progress along the way? How do we measure those improvements, how does one gauge our progress? How patient are we and the board prepared to be? If the short-term mandate is simply to develop youth, with all other concerns secondary, then one can't blame the coach(es) for a lack of premiership points - provided we see that steps are taken to improve the kids, and perhaps the game-plan. I'm reading a lot of talk of Pagan being given half the season to show something...well, what do we want to see? Can we measure it only with wins, or are there other developmental targets for which we should strive? I'd be interested to hear all your thoughts on just what it is that will be deemed a step forward, what you see as acceptable progress, and what goals you'd set Pagan and his team for 2007. |

Lots you could ask for here, but for me, the key things I want to see are... Continued improvement in players, especially the kids. Improvement in skill levels, this is a must. A red hot go every week. A game plan that is teaching them to play positive, direct football, getting it quickly into the forward line, giving our forwards a chance to go one-on-one with their opponents. None of this chipping around rubbish, and nowhere near as much flooding. If I can see clear signs that this is happening, I'll be happy. Because we are building a list where if these things are present, then in a few years we will be able to serious challenge. |

In 2004 we won, 10 games, 2005 we won 4, 2006 down to 3 wins. It get's worse.Wondering if we can repeat Fitzroy's 1964 of of not having a win?! I'm expecting a disaster, epsecially the rabble we are on and off the field. |

1. Dennis Pagan too paint a better picture of our direction through the media. 2. Reduce our debt even further 3. Achieve at least 30,000 members 4. Get the draft right. 5. Be injury free come round 1 6. The club just get things right, no hiccups or bad pr. 7. See great improvement in our developing young guys. 8. Pick up a great pick in the PSD too give us renewed hope that we are on track. |

If we are sitting on the bottom of the ladder at the halfway point of next season then i'll be very dissapointed. (starting to prepare myself now) I expect (and i should be demanding) at least 8-10 wins next year! |

My goals: 1. A strong new ticket formed to challenge the current board. 2. Our young players committing to the future of the club and not jumping ship, despite any reservations they may have regarding the senior coach. My expecations: You know what - I honestly don't know WHAT to expect from our club any more. It's an absolute shambles, I don't think anyone could predict with any confidence what's going to happen. We could have a new board within 3 months. We could lose the first 5 matches next year and Pagan could still be axed. We could have new lot of assistant coaches with some tactical ability, and actually start to get our shit together onfield. Or we could employ a bunch of ex-Carlton boys to appease the idiot supporters, and go nowhere. We could land a good player in the PSD (highly unlikely now, given the shambolic nature of the last few days - who'd want to come to Carlton?). We could recruit Gardiner (shudder). We could give up our 4th round pick for another 26yo with bad knees, and watch as another club picks up a good young kid in the 4th round. NO-ONE KNOWS. Because no-one knows what the f*** Carlton's board of directors is planning for our club. Worse, no-one knows if the board is even planning anything for our club, or is simply lurching from one crisis to another. And yet they expect people to stick their hands in their pockets and fund them anyway. Running a football club isn't easy. And we're attempting to do so with a group of people who clearly have neither the skills nor the experience to do the job. |

A solid Business Plan that includes a solid Marketing Plan to: Send a message to attract members from all corners of the country. Promote the Baby Blues taking us to the promised lad. Embrace and promote our history. Stability will come from the above, and I hope this positive message/ Plan/ Promotion embraces our past players, past members and past sponsors, and gets them on board. Intense development of our players over the pre season. A positive vibe and blue skies outlook. Hungry players, that will do our Navy Blue jumper proud. Rotations from the interchange as a rule.
