Might have been a smokescreen for him looking at Carl Peterson.

It would be downright stupid to pick him up. They could pick up a ruckman with a 2nd or 3rd round pick- Renouf for example, and there would then be 4 rucks: McLaren, Deluca (who can ruck), Bryan, and Renouf. It isn't as though we're light on for a ruckman.

Even so, Gardiner hardly rucks now, and was used as a forward in his latter years at WCE.

If we can get him for free in the PSD he's worth the punt (depending on who else was available). I don't want Deluca getting a game by default.

AND he is the best available player in that draft. I can't see what would be the problem with that IF he passes all criteria.

I'm sure they will do due diligence on him as they have with the characters of all players since the draft restrictions ended.

This is part of the problem caused by the Board flip-flop. Either we are rebuilding from the bottom up, and results don't matter near as much as development, or we are aiming at another 2004, which ultimately hasn't really progressed the club. The Board's message appears to be that 07 we need to win a lot more games, whereas I'd rather it be a development year and if we win we win, but the future is paramount. Because the Board can't see a way to keep us afloat without increased membership we may be shooting for middle of the road mediocrity rather than another grim year or two followed by a real go at the Flag. Are we becoming the new Richmond, who will next year celebrate 25 years of medicrity after 15 years of dominance.

The Gardiner scenario is DP trying for short term wins because that is the ultimatum the board have given or intimated. Gardiner, at best is a 3 year player, but more likely a no year hack. And he's hardly being brought on as a role model. If he could turn himself around off the field and be the player he was 3 years back, then maybe, but his body seems to have had it and not to sure about the mind either.

We saw our rucking depth in the bullants. Non existant. No use bolstering our midfield when our ruck cannot tap them the ball.

The most telling part of that article is the 129 games over 10 years. As he gets older that's only going to get worse, so it's not like we'd be getting someone who would be able to carry the ruck for the whole season.

Please promote Aisake and recruit a ruckman with an earlyish pick (17, 19 or 32)

Of course Gardiner wants to come here, better for his drug business.

I don't mind, if he can stay clean he isnt a bad ruckman, better than French, De Luca and Bryan put together, but he's a knob.

A lot of you probably won't agree with me, but I've sent an email to the club telling them that I won't be buying a membership next season if they bring Gardiner into the club.

It's not so much that I disagree with it as a football decision (I do, but I also don't agree with withholding memberships on that basis)... more that I can't support any organisation that would bring someone like Gardiner into the fold.

I don't need to go into the details of his alleged 'issues', but they're not something I want to put my money towards.

That's fair enough John, I'm sure you're not alone. I don't really care about a player's off field character, I'm more concerned about getting players who can give us good results but this bloke can't even get out on the park. No way we should touch this guy, his body is shot just like other former good ruckmen like King, Primus, Keating etc. It's a demanding position in the ruck and when their bodies go that's it.

I respect your initiative JohnM and I agree. I also will be sending the club an email stating the same thing.

And his 'issues' are a fact.

I thought about doing the same thing John. I think it's wrong on so many levels. Ignore Gardiner, and draft a rookie and send a message to the fans that we can recruit and develop our own kids please.

How many times...

PSD is not FREE!

It costs us a pre season draft pick (#1 no less), a 2 year contract most likely, cash, and most importantly A SPOT ON OUR LIST!

PSD does not = free.

He is doing what we would expect him to do .See what is the best available talent that we can acquire for nothing in the psd. (who else is their at the moment ) We do not expect Dennis to sit on his arse and do nothing do we. He is a pretty good judge of character. We do not know the full story with Gardiner so let him get on with trying to do the best for our club and get off his back.

By the way how do we know we want him solely as a ruckmen, dennis tell you or have we been reading the newspapers again.

No doubt their are some young potential draftees over their in WA that we would possibly be talking to as well to judge their character and so on ready for the up coming draft.

Such negative people i have never come across in my whole life
